About meMy name is Emilie, and I prefer non-fiction books over fiction. (Hi, Emilie.)

I studied animal science, work in the horse industry, and keep several other kinds of critters. There aren't many people on the backside that read often, but I think there's nothing better than to be done with chores, sitting reading in front of a horse stall in a comfy portable chair (oxymoron, but I'm sure there's *one* out there) waiting for the races to start.

My collection is focused on animal care. Most books are about horses and dogs, but there are plenty of agriculture, aquaculture, small mammal, laboratory animal, and veterinary medicine texts as well. I've only just started to collect older volumes, with horse books from the 1930s through 70s being my favorite.

The criminal justice items, along with everything else in the "Kyle" collection, belong to my SO. I cannot claim responsibility for anything in there except the animal books. His collection is mostly old textbooks, video gaming guides and comic books, but there are many boxes still to go through.

Hi! A couple of years ago when I was thinking about getting a dog, you recommended some reading material to me. I just wanted to let you know that I finally got a dog about 3 months ago - a very sweet Shih Tzu mix. I ended up going the adoption route and thankfully it's worked out well. He had bronchitis when I first got him and we've had to figure out some digestive issues. Now that those are behind us, he's turned into a healthy, happy little dog. Doing some reading ahead of time helped us get off to a good start, and I've got a lot more reading lined up!
Hi,

I have "Dragon's Delight" in a box somewhere in storage at my parents house. I'm unsure if the book starts on page seven but the next time I go home I'll see if I can find it and let you know.
Hi. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I had to find the book. I have a hard cover edition. The book starts with 2 blank pages (front and back), the a page that says "New Day for Dragon" on the front. The next page is a 2pg spread of Lyle and Dragon barrel racing with the title:
New Day for Dragon
Lynn Hall
illustrated by Joseph Cellini

Follett
Publishing
Company
Chicago

The back of that page has the copyright and ISBN info. The next page lists other books by Lynn Hall and its back is blank. Then Chapter One and pg 7. I'd be glad to scan the pages and send them to you if you would like. Just leave me your email address.

I have Dragon's Delight right here and it starts the same way, I seem to recall that's normal for that set of books. No preface or anything.
PS. The Google Books page scan starting chapter 1 on page 7 means there's 3 pages before chapter 1 (you count each side as one page). That doesn't necessarily indicate the actual page numbers (sometimes they start on the first page of chapter 1, sometimes they start from before that but only begin showing in the chapters). I do not think you are missing any text (no forwards that I recall).
You can see an image on Google Books; that may be the page before the title page details. Then if you search "chapter" in the search inside the book feature (snippet view only), Chapter 1 begins on page 7. The good news is you have the story. But you may want to find another copy if you want the title pages etc. You can find copies on abe.com, etc. bookfinder.com will show cheapest across many sites, but check individual sites for accuracy.
"New Day for Dragon" - If it starts on chapter 1, at least you have the story. Does it look like there's pages missing at the front? I can't check my copy directly at the moment, but most books usually have a title page and maybe one or two mostly blank pages at the front, with title/author etc. Did you get a paperback copy or hardcover? If paperback I wouldn't be surprised as binding isn't always as good as a hardcover. Another possibility is someone removed personal details. Ex-library? Could just be wear but ex-library can also be a good choice (generally, they are in good used condition and are not supposed to have missing pages). It is annoying when sellers don't mention missing pages, but sometimes it is not always obvious. Sometimes it is obvious -- I recently got a book by a different author where the ending was missing, seen by the page count and that the story wasn't finished.
Thanks for the reading suggestions you made on my thread. My public library has many of the books and authors you suggested. I'll start my reading there, and I'm sure there will be some that I'll end up purchasing for repeated reference. I'm excited and a little nervous, too!
Hi There. I'm a member of the 75 challenge group. I'm compiling a list of birthdays and sending messages to those whose birthday I don't have as yet. Would you please send your birthday either to the birthday thread, listed below,

You have a few racetrack books, Emilie, perhaps you'll enjoy "Racetrack Meditation," an excerpted chapter from my recently published book, Digging Deeper, A Memoir of the Seventies. It appears on an LT friend's blog. Here's the link:

Are you one of the folks in the photo?
Hello, to another horse person. I look forward to seeing the books you chose for your challenge. Good Luck and Happy Reading!
Ugh, thanks. I think I'll be passing on it now. The descriptions of it definitely make it seem like it's based on research.
Wow, talk about a kindred spirit! We have so much in common.
I do have a question for you - you gave "why the wild things are" 2 stars, do you remember why? I've been thinking about getting it for ages but I keep putting it off because I like to see books before I buy them.
