About meI just started teaching at a small public college.I have an MA in U.S. history with a minor track in women's history. My bachelors was in history with a minor in African and Afro-American Studies. I like books. I miss fiction.

About my libraryThese are books I own. I have not read them all(yet). Most were bought used. And when I stumble on some good finds used, I scoop them up whether I have time to read them right then or not. I've also read a lot of books that I don't own. Ironically, I think that going back to school has really cut into my reading time. I love history, but it takes me much longer to read than fiction. Most of the fiction in my collection is from before I went back to school. I don't remember the last time I read a novel. A few books listed here (most of the art books) actually belong to my partner. But what's his is mine and what's mine is his. ;)
I do have some doubles, mostly for sentimental reasons.
I'm not quite done entering my books and I've made a huge mess of tagging them.

Saw you liked Bastard Out of Carolina, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). Thought you might like it since it's also southern and a bit dark. I'd be glad to e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi, Amber. You and I are the only Librarythingers (so far) to have the book You Made Your Bed by Joan Webb Baile. I just finished reading it - read it in one sitting last night - and I'm wondering if you have read it yet, and if so what you thought of it, and how you came to have a copy of it.
You have many more books entered than I do -- I started two years ago and enter books as I get them; I didn't go back to earlier books. We have five in common, an eclectic lot.
I live in Florida (how about you?) and am a retired librarian, actually from a Presbyterian resource center. Looking forward to hearing from you. Martha
Hi! I just happened to be on the Laurel Thatcher Ulrich author page and saw that you, like I, have listed her as a favorite author. Do you know that she has a new book out titled, Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History? I thought if you didn't you might like to:-) Best, Lois
Thank you for putting your catalog together!

I look forward to dipping into it at some point. It is a true gem as I am sure you must be, too!

peace and respect

Thanks so much for your kind words about Pink Think! Where do you teach? If it's close to the SF Bay Area, perhaps I can visit your class sometime.

All best,
Lynn Peril
Hi Amber, thanks for the compliment about my collection. I no longer teach as a profession. Have been venturing off into new territory--trying my hand at visual media (graphic design, videography, etc.. Sometimes I want to go back into teaching, but simply hate where public education has gone in this country, particularly in California. They'd simply fire me if I were teaching now. So in many ways I'm happy to move on. But I have a lot of respect for dedicated, intelligent, creative teachers who base what they do on student-centered instruction and collaboration. Anyway, 'nuf said. Keep in touch.
HI!

thanks for turning me on to this wacky site!

love you!
So areas of study are you teaching? Perhaps I can suggests some titles.
Was checking out your collection. Very similar to mine. And like you, I don't read as much fiction as I used to. I have novels that I want to read, but I get to focused on non-fiction. Good luck with tagging and book inputting. Your collection helped me to add books that I haven't yet inputted.
Hi! Saw from your comment over at 43things that you'd started using this service and came over hoping to find you! You've already got far more books catalogued than I have; I'm glad that my link was helpful to you.
