About meI am mortified to be told that, in the United States of America, the sale of a book can become a subject of inquiry, and of criminal inquiry too.
Thomas Jefferson

Books serve to show a man that those original thoughts of his aren't very new after all.
Abraham Lincoln

There are people. There are stories. The people think they shape the stories, but the reverse is often closer to the truth.
Alan Moore

People want to know why I do this, why I write such gross stuff. I like to tell them I have the heart of a small boy... and I keep it in a jar on my desk.
Stephen King who acquired it from Robert Bloch

Far more seemly were it for thee to have thy study full of books, than thy purse full of money.
John Lyly

I couldn't live a week without a private library - indeed, I'd part with all my furniture and squat and sleep on the floor before I'd let go of the 1500 or so books I possess.
H.P. Lovecraft

About my libraryTo be a book-collector is to combine the worst characteristics of a dope fiend with those of a miser.
Robertson Davies

Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
P.J. O'Rourke

The first stories anyone ever told were probably etiological myths – answers to the big, urgent questions. What's that loud rumbling in the sky? Why does the sun go away in winter? How come Ug doesn't move anymore when I poke him with a stick?
Mike Carey

"Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are" is true enough, but I'd know you better if you told me what you reread.
François Mauriac

Great quotes!
Angelikat,
Your FS book list is superb but the cover pictures are not often of FS editions. In my FS book list I have the correct covers for virtually all the 180+ FS books that I own. You may wish to copy these into your own list.
Best wishes.
wcarter (Warwick Carter)
Thanks for your reply. I've just had another look at the FS list. I don't know how it works. What should I have to do if I wanted to participate with my books? (if I were using the FS tag) In my case, I use a collection named Folio Society. Do you know if your list could consist of books 1) with the FS tag OR 2) belonging to an FS collection, to include my case?
Enjoy your week-end.
François
Hi angelikat,

I hope you won't object my having included the link to the Folio Society books list in the FSD wiki. I think it has its place there.

François
Love the quotations. :)
Yes, I'm very happy with the books-Thank you very much! When I opened the box I started laughing, it was such a perfect selection. :-)
I hope my overlong and very particular "What to Get" and "What Not to Get" posts weren't too obnoxious...

The best part of the whole thing, however, was adding the books and seeing who came up in my connections as owning them, recognizing your name on each of them, then checking the packing slip again and seeing the note that you were my Secret Santa. Amazing how interconnected things can sometimes be.

Thanks again, and have a happy holiday!

-Rich
hi. I like your quotes.
Thanks for the complements!

While adding to the "From Where" category for my books, I saw that you had added some of the bookstores I used to shop at in Middletown. Thank you for doing so! Always nice to have a trip down memory lane, I spent lots of time (and $!) in some of those stores.

I haven't seen one of those cards in over a decade! :-)

I was a longtime RCLS user, I remember going to the small Pine Bush branch with my mom and checking out picture books, then working through almost all of the SF and Fantasy they had as I went through elementary, middle, and high school. In college I would stop at Thrall about once a week (in the old library building).
I happen to like Jerry Lewis. Punk monke
Great! Enjoy your reading :-)

Hi!

I'm glad you like the books I chose for you. I've been following the thread for the SantaThing in hopes that the books will start arriving to the users in the USA. I'm a bit worried about the situation so I hope they get there soon.

A new edition of The Silmarillion is always a good addition to any library. I think that counting my editions and my husband's we must have six or so :-)

Cheers,

Angela

BTW, don't we share the first name?

Hey! Just got my SantaThing on Saturday...looks awesome. I haven't heard of it but love the art just glancing through it. I'm not really an artist or anything, but did work at Walt Disney World for about 10 years, so that's why my library is sort of skewed that way. Thanks much! And hey, just looking over your page, what did you think about Peter & Max from last year? I've read many of the Fables books, but P&M just made it onto my TBR list!

best,
rgherndon
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. :)
Thanks for adding BannedBooksLibrary to your interesting libraries. Happy Reading!

Oh, that's good. Any interest in adding an "ex libris" tag? I'd love to see more of them, and will add it as a tag suggestion in the upload box.
Thank you, SantaThing! I definitely squealed when I opened your package yesterday...I haven't even heard of the Fables novel Peter & Max! That was an excellent Christmas surprise :)! The Bloody Chamber is right up my alley, as well. I've heard of it, but my library doesn't have a copy, which greatly decreases the chances that I'll actually read somenthing--so very excited to have my own copy now. Great job reading my tastes...which, of course, might be related to the fact that all 6 of your books in the 'recently added' tab look interesting to me :)

Thanks again!

Oh, I'm so glad you're happy with the books! I thought you were pretty easy to pick for (we seem to have similar tastes in a lot of areas) but was still worried you'd hate 'em. Happy holidays!
Thank you so much! You've made my season. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for your attention. As I live abroad, in BRazil, perhaps it takes a long time. But as soon it arrives I'll tell you. Bye.
Hello,

I got a book from Member Giveaway and Abby informed me you are the responsible for sending me the book. I'd like to have more information about how and when I'll possibly receive the book.
Thank you for your attention,

Marcílio Garcia
Thank you so much for Introduction to Mythology! It came in the mail today!
I got Celtic Mythology and Religion today! It looks really good. Thanks!
sorry, about your icky computer

the chat room does have that affect on some, people are falling off their stools in there all the time.

let's try next week
If that was you just stopped by chat and missed me...I was reading threads. If you'd like to come back I'll hang there for a while, no cheating.

Otherwise, maybe next Friday?
Thanks so much, Present at a Hanging arrived today in very good condition.
I just wanted to thank you for the Four Weird Tales book; besides immediately being drawn into the first story, the book itself is just beautiful. Thank you very much for making this book available through the Member Giveaway program!

Have a great night!

Best,
Lesley
Thank you! My profile picture is a crocheted Cthulhu made by a friend of mine :)
Thank you for suggesting the story by Mr. Gaiman, the title is certainly promising enough :).

I try to enhance my small Lovecraft collection every now and then, hoping to come across something new ...

Adding you has been an absolute pleasure, since we seem to share several interest ...

Regards,
Lady Lovecraft
