Noticed you liked The Virgin Suicides, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Ewwwww!! I don't know that I totally agree with N.Z'ers not knowing much about African-American issues. I remember it being very well covered in literature at Auckland University. Toni Morrison distinctly comes to mind.
good to see your library growing. A tres bientot, j'espere.

Hi
I just joined today, so will just be rambling along in this message. Like you, I buy books 'for my future self' and then read them when I have time or when the spirit moves me. The list we share: Tennessee Williams, Katherine Mansfield and Wide Sargasso Sea - I've read recently because I'm a teacher, teaching International Cambridge English in Auckland, New Zealand ( I'm Canadian, actually). Wide Sargasso Sea is very exciting for me as I am very intrigued by gender and race issues. Have also just read 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings' and am teaching 'To kill a Mockingbird'. African-American issues are not well known in NZ - they do not know much about the western hemisphere!

cheers
Erika
