About meI am retired and live in West Sussex inthe UK. I have always read a lot and now that I am retired am able to read during the day as well as at bedtime. As well as reading fiction, I am interested in wildlife and birds and visiting various parts of the United Kingdomto pursue these interests. I enjoyed classical music and easy listening from the 50s/60s.
I am married with 2 adult daughters and 2 teenage grandchildren. I think I am going to enjoy this site and look forward to discovering new books by authors I like and also by authors I havent tried before.

About my libraryA mixture of fiction and non fiction and genre books - art, history, wildlife and birds, some crafts

Hi Ann. Sorry I missed you the other day but I'm sure we'll catch up on msn soon. I haven't read The Stand but with all the good reviews its getting I might have to give it a go! I think I'll add it to my ever growing wishlist!
Hello

I 've got 2 bronze helper badges!!!
No I haven't, although it is one I have been thinking about!
Ok Anne i'll look that book up, thanks! :)

I haven't read that SK book so you will have to let me know how you get on!

xx
Hi Anne, I'm so glad you enjoyed the Stand! It's an asolute monster but well worth reading!

I enjoyed Bag of Bones, Desperation, Rose Madder, Four Past Midnight and IT. I have only read a small amount of his books, but have loads on my bookshelf waiting!

Let me know what one you decide on!

Nici x
Hi Ann, How are you? Yeah, I do seem to read a lot of Mysteries/Crime thrillers! I think that's the best thing about places like this, as I am certainly finding that my tbr has greatly expanded in the genre department!
Hi Ann :) We seem to be bumping into each other a lot lately lol. I found you at last! Hope you are feeling better today xo
Charm xo
well tahnkyou
Hello Ann...nice to hear from you, and I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to Ottawa last summer. I agree that it is a great city, and in fact I live not to far from Colonel By Drive, on the other side of the canal close to downtown. I think you will really enjoy this site. I have met some very interesting (and extremely well-read people) and been introduced to a number of new authors and books. I was retired, but have taken on some new commitments that have cut into my reading and reviewing, but I try to make as much time as I can. Cheers...John
Hi Ann,

No problem. Glad to have you as a friend here on LibraryThing.

Hope your new year is filled with happiness,
L
Hi Ann!
Thanks for the recommendations! I have been wanting to read the book by Daniel Pearl's wife. I had not heard of Kate Adie, but she and her autobiography sound very interesting; I will have to see if I can locate her book as well. I had to go to my stacks of books that I have not yet entered into LibraryThing to return the favor. If you like autobiographies, you might enjoy Boy: Tales of A Childhood by Roald Dahl. He is the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (among other titles) and this small memoir I found delightful. Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden is a classic of war reporting, telling the story of events that occurred in October of 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia. It was also made into a movie, but the book is much better. On a lighter note, if you haven't already discovered Frances Mayes, you might want to check out Under the Tuscan Sun and Bella Tuscany. Both memoirs are lush accounts of Mayes's love affair with Italy, the home she and her husband restore there, and the life they enjoy there. Under the Tuscan Sun was also made into a movie, but again, the book is better and more true to what actually happened. Finally, a biography that you might find interesting is Alice James: The Life of the Brilliant But Neglected Younger Sister of William and Henry James by Jean Strouse. I am not really a fan of Henry, and William is a little deep for my taste, but I found Alice's story very intriguing. Well, look at how I've gone on! I hope some of my suggestions connnect with you, at least! I had better go get some lunch fixed. Thanks for responding to me as well. Have a great Sunday.
Hello Ann. I too have only been on LibraryThing a short time. A good friend gave me a lifetime membership for my birthday. I am really enjoying the site, but I have been so busy over the holidays that I really haven't joined any groups or gotten to know anyone. It looks like we have a few authors in common: Lee Child, Frank McCourt, Bill Bryson, Mark Haddon, David Baldacci and Jack Higgins. I don't see Teacher Man (McCourt) in your catalog, or The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid (Bryson). I can highly recommend both. Some of your books look pretty interesting. Do you have any particularly good recommendations? I am ALWAYS looking for new books to read--although, heaven knows, it is not as though I don't have a couple of hundred books in my To Be Read (TBR) pile!
Like you, I have a pretty eclectic taste in reading, both fiction and non-fiction.
Who?
How come so many of you r modern books do not have a picture?
Hey you did it - just add all your books first and then u can sot out everything else!!
Hi I have just joined The Library Thing today and am just finding my way around the site. I am a retired lady who enjoys reading very much. I particularly enjoy thrillers, adventures, biographies and family type novels. I also enjoy American political novels as written by Allen Drury. I havent completed my library yet, that will take a few days I think. It is a pretty eclectic selection I think.

That's all for now, just wanted to say hello to everyone out there.
