For your 2010 reading challenge I would like you to read 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. I know it's a children's book but it is such a moving and powerful story. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Yes, but it is the first book in the trilogy isn't it? I plan to read it myself - and yes, there is a risk that, if it is good, it might lead to further purchases (tee hee!).

Hi Shona. Thanks for the challenge - I've been looking at that one so often of late, I'm surprised I haven't read it by osmosis or something! Maybe I'll actually sit down and read it now!

My challenge to you is one of my favourites from the past couple of years, so I obviously hope it'll turn out to be one you enjoy too: Martin Davies's "The Conjuror's Bird".

Best wishes

Hi Arky, I just read your review for Once Upon a Time in England and have given it a thumbs up. What a brilliant book. I only finished it this afternoon and am still dwelling on it.
Now this day,
My sun father,
Now that you have come out standing to your sacred place,
That from which we draw the water of life,
Prayer meal,
Here I give to you.
Your long life,
Your old age,
Your waters,
Your seeds,
Your riches,
Your power,
Your strong spirit,
All these to me may you grant.

Hi Shona.

All the rated books on my list are alread read, which includes Conjurorer's Bird: my TBR list is all those unrated. I really enjoyed this - gave it 6/6 on my scale (only 2-3 books a year get this), and would recommend it thoroughly, but would be grateful if you could pick one of the unrated books. Thanks!

Will
Hi Shona
I did enjoy browsing your library and TBR list - a lot in common with mine: I've only put a small fraction up, but almost 1 in 7 are shared with yours, so I'll enjoy using the rest to give me some ideas!

Anyway, my challenge to you is one that has been on my TBR shelf at home for a while, but regularly gets overlooked. Apparently that happens a lot with this author with, I gather, quite a lot of critics reckoning she's underrated, so I thought it might be one to actually take down and read this year. So I've gone for:

Good Behaviour by Molly Keane.

I'll give it a go too, and will be very interested to see what you make of it.

Will
