Hi DoAn,

I appreciated your observations on Lee and Carter.

I obtained a copy of The Bloody Chamber yesterday and just read the title story this morning. My first reaction is pure Jeff Spicoli Keats - somewhere between

"awesome,dude"

and

"Then felt I like some watcher of the skies
When a new planet swims into his ken;
Or like stout Cortez when with eagle eyes
He stared at the Pacific—and all his men
Looked at each other with a wild surmise—
Silent, upon a peak in Darien."

I found "The Bloody Chamber" story to be a perfect alchemical mix of elements of Huysman, Poe, and Lee. From J.K.H, the sumptuousness and esthete sensibility, from E.A.P., the suspense, clarity and narrative flow, and from T.L., a detached yet feminine point of view. I hope the rest of the collection proves as great. I plan to approach the stories one a day, in a savoring mode.

Hi DoAn

I noticed your collection of Tanith Lee books. I'm a big fan of hers. Not so much her story-telling ability as her imaginative worlds (Vis)and the voice of her characters (Rachaela Scarabae). I see you also have read a lot of Angela Carter, of whom I know little. Are there similarities between them and is there a Carter book you might recommend to a Lee fan?

I see you are also a visual artist with an affinity for colors and patterns. Did you find anything about Lee's desciption of the Scarabae house, and its stained glass widows, interesting or inspiring in that regard?
