About meWho am I? I am a librarian (1 of 6 in my greater family group) Specifically, I am a government documents librarian and have been one for 36 years at Oklahoma State University where I am the department head of a very large collection. My wife is the department head of the Science and Engineering Division at the same library. We have two sons who are out of college. One married, one not. Interests include: working with the Boy Scouts (my sons are both Eagle Scouts, stamp collecting, cooking, reading and hiking. My handle is athiker and so is the name on my car tag. Hiking the Appalachian Trail is has been a goal for a long time. My trail name is Low Clearance. I began hiking the AT in 1999 and am still at it as a section hiker. I crossed the 2000 mile mark this year in Maine and hope to finish next year. A broken leg in 2004 on the first day of the last 700 mile section has slowed me down. Maybe being too careful now while hiking and getting older are other factors in the time it has taken me to finish. My sons have hiked a large part with me when they are available and my wife has been the no. 1 Trail Angel by giving support to our efforts. This is probably enough to write and if you have questions you can email me through this site or my normal email.
About my libraryI do not know the size of my library. I think there are maybe 2000 books. Adding my collection entries to LibraryThing will allow me to get a better idea of what I have. My subject areas are varied. Once completed, my holdings will show a large collection of military history with the American Civil War being the largest. Other areas of interest are the Appalachian Trail, cooking (especially Dutch Oven, pies and tarts), Scouting, outdoors, The Christmas Carol and Scrooge, Eric Sloane books, etc. By reviewing my tags, one will see what I like. I am always interested in seeing that some of the books I have are also picked by others. It is especially interesting to add books and see how few have the same book I own.
