About me hi there, im brook. im from maryland and intend to be back there in the near future.

i've got a B.A. in english language and literature so i suppose it is no surprise that i am now a member of "the thing". i work in the publications department for a medical journal, which is a lot more fun than it sounds.

good writing makes me cringe (in a good way). i sometimes feel physical pain when i read a sentence/paragraph/chapter/book that is so perfectly worded that it is more like a symphony than a bunch of letters strewn about. i have lofty dreams of crafting such beauty on my own, but whatever talent i may have been born with combined with whatever i have learned throughout my 24 years of life has yet to put something worthwhile onto a page, so, i will continue to devour good writing as much as possible and find solace in the art of others.

if you're interested in my life outside of books, i am more than willing to share...ask and you shall receive! but consider this fair warning: im a red head, which most people seem to equate with being slightly less-than normal. hmm...upon further examination i realize that probably doesn't matter much on a place like librarything. :)

About my library i tend to be a fiction gal, but otherwise i am pretty damn open. husband is into sci-fi/fantasy which i can groove on from time to time, but otherwise im usually into the whole post-modern apocolyptic scene. that being said, im a sucker for a good love story. and nothing beats some of the classics. come to think of it, nothing beats the beats, either. oh, and poetry can rock my socks from time to time (i have an obsession with the plath & hughes - yes, i know im pathetic). so im quite the hodge podge, methinks.

i have books scattered in two states so it will be a slow process finding/cataloging them all.

Have you ever read Tom Robbins' short story about red heads? Thought you might be interested as a red head, read head. If you do a search for the tag "red heads" you'll find the book it is in.
thanks for the kind note. i shoulda known you'd be a carolinian. and a fellow english/lit major to boot. see you around.

Welcome to "the Thing"! I am an English professor at a small college in Texas, and I have been collecting books for an embarassingly long time! I am also from "up north" -- Philadelphia to be exact, but I don't see myself getting there any time soon.

As far as the writing is concerned, keep reading! one of these days, it will all come together, so keep writing as well. You never know when it might hit!

Good luck!

-Jim
