Favorite authorsAnthony Horowitz (Shared favorites)

About me I am 13 years old, and i love to read. i enjoy my english lessons, and i would love to be an author/journalist/fashion designer when i am older. i love fantasy, and fiction mostly, but i hate non-fiction. i love Anthony Horowitz the most out of all the authors. His books are brill!!!! Other fav authors are Jill Marshall (JANE BLONDE), and Jane Austen!
I also, as well as been a keen reader, am a keen dancer. I have been doing ballet and tap and theatrecraft for nearly eight years now. This year in my dance show, I have to wear a purple lycra catsuit! NOOOOO!

About my library I have a normal taste in books, i would say. One of my favourites is Pride and Prejudice, which is slightly unusual for a girl of 13. One of my very good friends, MUSICGURL, has a very different taste. Unfortunately, most of my other friends like to read magazines instead.
I always have lots of different books on my windowsill borrowed from my school and public library. My mum gets very annoyed!

Hey there!
I told ya i'd say something!!
(It's musicgurl btw)
Hi balletgurl, I hope you are enjoying your time here on LT! Yes, I enjoyed the Philip Pullman books and have read a bit more YA stuff (although I don't make a habit of it). I liked the Scott Westerfeld trilogy that begins with "Uglies" and some books by Ann Halam. I also like the short stories by Margo Lanagan. Great stuff! Is Horowitz the author who writes the young James Bond books? Until recently I worked in a bookshop, his books have been very popular here in the US.

I have quite a few books on historic clothing, costumes (making clothing for the theatre...etc). When I was a teenager I wanted to be a fashion designer. Things didn't work out that way for me, but I still like to sew and make clothing and often think about design. I think I have a book called the Fashion Sketchbook that I haven't put in LT yet. It's older but it's probably a lot like what you might be looking for.

Best, Lois
Hi Olivia! My advice is to follow your gut about choosing things you enjoy, courses that make you feel that "spark." If you're creative, go for it! I followed my parents' advice and made sure I took practical courses that would support me in the long run with some good career choices. But I also took a ton of creative writing and language classes that appealed to me on many more levels. I think you have to "follow your bliss" in order to be happy and keep growing. But it's good to balance that by making sure you'll have maximum options and freedom later. (And you might change your mind, so it's good to keep your options open.) Best of luck to you!!

I know what you mean about wanting to join the characters in books.
I still feel like that sometimes! Also, really wanting to get to the end of a book to know what happens but, at the same time, really not wanting it to be over.
By the way, good luck to you with your dreams of being an author/journalist. I loved English and writing as well. I have a degree in journalism and it was a wonderful field to start out in, I have enjoyed my career (nearly 2 decades of working at it!). I don't do formal journalism but I write and edit for a living and write for fun (poetry, fiction). Best of luck to you!!
Hello. I loved Enid Blyton - Famous Five but especially the Mallory Towers series. Oh, I lived for those books! My school (in the UK) was a boarding school as well as day school. I wasn't a boarder but my best friend was and her stories were nearly as exciting as those of MT!!
Hey,
i see you have quite a few books by Enid Blyton, i have alot too, but they are not listed on my library. I loved reading her books when i was younger.
Do you have a favourite?
