About meI am of a readerly disposition. I tend to read too many things at once, but I can never give up my whorish ways. I did a senior thesis on Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales when I studied English at UW-Madison. For the past few years I've focused much of my reading energy on literature in translation. I consider Jose Saramago to be our greatest living writer. I also enjoy works by PG Wodehouse (who deserves to have a space in the literature section instead of the humor shelves where he is usually relegated) and his latterly dirty-minded incarnation JP Donleavy. In fact, my username comes from a character in one of Donleavy's novels, The Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B, a wonderful book indeed. Oh, and I have a tattoo inspired by Moby Dick.
