Actually, I think I need to stay away from "genre" altogether, which is what is making this hard for me. I'm also primarily scifi/horror/mystery with a smattering of historical fiction, but the person in charge of our sponsoring group requested "light fiction" and mentioned "Eat, Pray, Love." My issue is that I don't want to go all Oprah's-book-club weepy books, but a lot of classics aren't considered "light," so I'm looking for books that most people would enjoy and which would be good for discussion.

Looking at my own shelves, I've come to realize how much of my reading is genre books, so this is tough for me.
We need more players... might you be interested?

Hey, I just got put in charge of my office’s book club. I think we’re supposed to reading light fiction or motivational/professional nonfiction. As I mostly read genre fiction (of various genres), could you recommend a couple more mainstream-y books for a book club? I'm soliciting my librarything friend for help. BTW, do you know of any librarything features for book clubs?
5,300 books!

Wow! I'll never get up there. Question? Can you catalog your comic book collection on here? Does anyone know?

Maybe if I add my comic book, I'll get to have a lot of books in my library.
We're up to sharing 3 books now! :) I haven't actually read Curious Incident, at the moment all the books I'm entering are my TBR. I'm in the process of transferring over what was on an excel spreadsheet (books I've read, books TBR etc). What I do realise is that I have TOO MANY BOOKS heh, even while I know there is no such thing.

Got to go, my sister has just dished up some home-made chocolate bavarian ... it's a hard life laying around on a Sunday :)
Hi Brett - nice to hear from you. I see I have a way to go to match your library ... :)
While I'm browsing LibraryThing, I always check the 'shared books' of others to see if the commonalities are the usual, or a little more obscure. If there's some variance, I look deeper - your collection is moderately enormous, eclectic and a good source of titles and authors for a fantasy/sci-fi reader who hasn't absorbed all the classics yet :)

I liked Heart Shaped Box a lot... very solid, unnerving first novel, despite an ending which didn't quite match the standard of the rest of the book. I loved how it was paced, especially. I haven't read the short stories, though, have you? What did you think?
Thanks for the friendship, Brett--and thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed Coyote. If you end up reading Vacation, I'd love to hear what you think. Write me anytime. :)
Great to meet you. Thanks for accepting my friendship. I'm Looking forward to checking out your library and I hope you enjoy mine.
I know! It's not quite my favorite bookish quote (that would be the Desiderius Erasmus quote, "When I have a little money..."), but it's so perfect set within a profile.

And my sincere apologizes for my delay in replying to your comment! Life's been quite busy, lately.
Ok, silly comment - we swapped messages before.... ;)
Hi there, friended you back! How do you know me? Was this an accidental-drive-by or do we know each other under a different name from another site? 64 books in common, not bad... What is "bizarro"??? Suggestions, please!
Just one comment on your comment about only having read half of your 3500 books: that means you HAVE read 1750 of them, which is excellent. Yes our TBR piles are large and growing, but at least we don't have a library showcase, where the books are just an show piece. As I catalog, I'm surprised by how many of the books I actually have read.

"The end is nigh!"

R.
Hey Brett,

I have not yet read The Darkness and The Damned yet. Like you, my TBR list is quite long, and cataloguing the library is revealing the full extent. I got The Darkness and the Damned from the author, so the autograph in my copy is actually addressed to me and my wife. Does that make it worse that I haven’t read it yet? Maybe. Anyway, I think Feral self-published and distributed. That's why I was so surprised you had it (and thought perhaps you were from the Northeast).

As for Rorschach: yes, he is my absolute favorite Watchman. On the surface I would expect to hate him, because he's so vocally pessimistic and completely crazy. But one of the beauties of his character is that he proves through his actions to be the most optimistic and sanest of the heroes. To me he is the exact opposite of Ozymandias, who on the surface seems to be the one who understands the world the best, but he turns out to be both evil and much more insane than Rorschach.

Hey, if you like graphic novels and want an unusual read, try Box Office Poison. I picked it up on a whim and have been glad I did.

The end is nigh!

"Rorschach"
Thanks, Jack.
greetings from a fellow bookmoocher.... thanks for sharing your link!

Just went and looked at PaperBackSwap and remembered, why I joined BookMooch instead. One of my BookCrossing buddies told me that it is more international than PBS - which is a consideration, living in Egypt...
PaperBackSwap.com - oh no, don't give me any ideas, I do not need to join another booksite!!! ;)

Blood Price - I do like the series, I have only the last one left to read. Hopefully the TV show will eventually make it over here!
Well, it seems my vow to cut down on my book collecting has gone straight to hell. Pardon my language. I was down to less than a thousand books and now look! Over 2500 again!
I guess books are more a part of me than I could ever have guessed. I better start reading them now. Just kidding! I've read...most of them.
