Thank you for accepting my invitation. Merry Christmas and God bless!

Interesting combination...discernment...military history...not so far a cry from the aspect of warrior monks...eh? I grew up in a monastery, but decided to try public life, then started traveling. Never went back, but do read my office daily. Am now rather active...politically and socially and religiously within a local UCC Congregationalist church, seems to foot the bill, as far as my outlook, plus the pastor is a woman...AND an ancient languages scholar and very progressive....so how could I not be anamoured with a setting such as that? She has introduced me to an order...a lay order called Order of Corpus Christi, they have a website, but upon checking seems to be down at the moment. Something you might want to look into is you are not prepared for total immersion...or re-immersion into the life. You still function out in the lay world, but have the benefits of monastic ideals to live by. I will give the site...but as I said...was not working at the moment...http://www.occhristi.org/...I've spoken to the Abbot in Charge, located in the PA hills area, but has members all around the states.

I have pared down my collection from around 12,000 (not a typo) to around 4800...of which about 3200 is catalogued. I'd hate the try to put down everything I have managed to read so far...but it is an interesting thought?

I work in a public library and use LT as a tool in readers advisory, since the public library would never have the range of books that I read...or at least a good rendering of what I like. Welll, have to go, time to open the doors to the library!!
interesting amalgam of books you have. We seem to share a penchant for the more esoteric. Interesting juxtaposition of sacred and secular, perhaps you are/were a warrior monk?... Not many people would have an SAS manual. works by the founder of Opus Dei and the Joy of Priesthood all on the same listing?... Sounds like you could give the Vatican Jesuit's a run for thier money!...lol...

I did notice that you have at least one of the 4 vol. sets of the daily office. Something you still pursue? I still have my shortened brievery from the 70's and also have my 4 volume set for the seasons. The devotion to mary and other smaller handbooks and missals are always a treasure to look through. My daughter had just re-discovered her 'cath-licity' (her term) and is just beginning to learn (again) about the rosary. Lot of info on the net, but nothing explains it as well as those portions of the old (pre-vatican 2) missals....

Well, later...indentured servitude to the municipality calls.....
