About meWow, its been another year since I updated my profile:

I am now a sophomore at Rutgers University in New Jersey, and I don't know what the hell I'm going to major in. I might get my master's degree before I get my Ph.D., I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Right now, I'm writing a book about the need to end philosophy in favor of social theory. Beyond my academic aspirations, however, I love jazz, writing, and politics.

About my librarySince a year ago I've laid off the critical pedagogy and now I'm reading a lot of postmodernism and pragmatism. My library now includes books like Gender Trouble, Whose Justice? Which Rationality?, Feminism, Pragmatism, and Democracy, etc.

Noticed you liked The Bluest Eye, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

I'm sure you are familiar with "Language and Symbolic Power" by Pierre Bourdieu, n'est ce pas? If not, it's a must for your work.
In the "About Me" section above you write, "Right now, I'm writing a book about the need to end philosophy in favor of social theory."

I wonder if you've read any Richard Rorty. "Take care of freedom, and truth will take care of itself" is sort of his keynote quote. It sounds like you might be in sympathy with him.
Hey, welcome back - we've missed you!
Thanks for clearing that up! Mental...image...stabilizing.
I'm suffering from extreme mental image variability based upon your name. Is it Big Al or Bi Gal?

See you in the Polit. Conserv. group,

You're going toe-to-toe with some prickly characters and willfully obtuse. Keep up the good fight.

Thank you for your comment over at Art is Life. I hope to hear more from you soon. I am very interested in what you have to say.
Like oregon, I, too, am impressed. You are very thoughtful and articulate - I also think you'll be a great professor - Good luck to you!
Just read your Freire quote and loved it. I have not read much by Freire himself (exerpts mostly) but first came in contact with his ideas in his native Brasil, where his methods were used to both teach literacy and raise political consciousness--directly out of the concepts in your quote.
Had to check your profile when I saw your post on the Abortion is Slavery thread. I have to say, as a high school senior, you have considered this issue at a level of maturity far beyond that of many adults. You are going to be a great professor!
