About meI'm an IT director at the University of California, Santa Cruz and an archaeologist specializing in prehistoric art. My library supports my archaeological research, hobbies, interest in family history, and mental well being.

About my libraryAbout half my books reside on shelves where I have ready access. The rest are packed in closets and the garage because I bought a house with more windows than wall space for shelves. Books rotate on and off the shelves depending on my current research interests.

I had to stop by and say, "Hi" because today I entered a little book called Inside the Caves from the Lava Beds National Monument and lo and behold someone else here actually had one! Considering your specialty, if you've gone to the Lava beds, I'm sure you've also seen the (bother, I can't remember the proper name for it) rock paintings up around the Tulelake area? I grew up not far (70mi. approx.) from there.
Dear Bill,
Thank you so much! I only saw your post today. Reading your message brought back being there! I was utterly delighted to be able to see these caves. Combarelles is hard enough now - imagine crawling! It was the fulfillment of a dream for me! But what a tragedy to have lost the colors from the horses at Cap Blanc.

Hello bill,
Unbelievably, I finally made it to the Dordogne this June! As I am in a wheelchair, there were many caves that were impossible for me to visit. But I was able to see Abri de Cap Blanc, Combarelles, and Rouffignac! What an utter delight! I consider myself very lucky, as I had concluded that I would never be able to see any of them. I thought of you while I was there.
