Hallooo
Ah, I've also been wanting to read the Michel de Certeau since perusing a snippet several years ago. Hope you enjoy it.
Shikkel doesn't rhyme with tweak!!
Jacob, I'm not an editor at Calque, but became friends with editor Steve Dolph recently. He's a great guy and very dedicated to the project. I will forward your message to him, but definitely email him directly too at the Calque email address.

I also look forward to digging through your library. I still have a long way to go cataloging my books, so check back in a month.
But wouldn't you say that the boy is a bit long in the snout? Perhaps due to a deformity that would do Ambroise Paré justice, he has sought the warm guidance of nature yet cannot restrain a secret longing for corrupt society.

I will reply to your crambo leads by email. Also, I've heard that Cloud Atlas is quite good but have not yet had a chance to check it out. Have you read it?
There is something tragic yet heartwarming in your profile photo -- which I remember seeing, by the way, on my trip to New England this last spring. It is almost as if the roughly hewn father-son bear couple are looking wistfully upon the loss of their natural habitat and the changing of economic regime. But the counterpoint of beer-pizza seems somehow to make up for it -- both for them and me! "Such is life," I can imagine the father explaining to the son. "But an anchovy tastes sooo much better with some IPA to wash it down."

PS - Is the boy bear wearing clothes?
Spine and Kidney!
No, "rolig" comes from my real name, Rawley G., as spelled in Slovene: Roli G. What's the Swedish word for fun? I would be interested in reading your essay of Batiushkov's Finnish letters. I read the Otryvok a long time ago, when I was a graduate student writing a (never-finished) PhD dissertation on Baratynsky, who of course became famous for his poem Finlyandiya. Now in my 50s, I have been looking again at Baratynsky, thinking about publishing a collection of his poems in English. I have translated quite a few of them, but have never really looked for a publisher. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Well, it's nice to see that there's another person on LT who has Batyushkov in their library! He's rather outdated today, I suppose, but he does have his charm.
I am impressed with your collection of Levi-Strauss. I love his ability to find the ideas in the fields and middens. And this great way to end an adventure: From Tristes Tropiques, the volume closes with the wonderful phrase "or in the brief glance, heavy with patience, serenity, and mutual forgiveness, that, through some involuntary understanding, one can sometimes exchange with a cat."
