About meI once took a test to find out if I was a biblioaddict; I think my answer to every question was Yes. I love new books, especially hardbacks (and even confess to smelling the pages), but most of the books I read are from my local library. In 1999 I began recording little reviews of the books I read in a little yellow book, mostly because I was embarrassed that I could never remember anything about the books I had read!
I live in Swarthmore, Pa, with my husband and two cats; my daughter, a doctor, and son, a TV personality, live in Manhattan.

About my libraryThe books I've entered here are from that little yellow book. If I ever finish that project, I may add some from my own collection - maybe around ten years from now!

Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Thanks for your kind review of my book! My mother's name was Bobbi, by the way, and so is my daughter's (who I named after her), so I love your name! I very much appreciate you reading and reviewing TORCH.
Whew! I just finished reading (and reviewed) Robert Goolrick's The End of the World as We Know It. It made me postively wince! Saw your brief comment on it and thought I'd check in. I may have to try his novel soon - (A Reliable Wife? is that the title?). I'm a "book smeller" too - new books, at least. Some of the used books I've had don't smell all that good. Interesting about your "little yellow book." The epitome of that habit is to be found with LT member Schmerguls. He's kept a record of every book he's read since he was 8 yrs old. And he's 81 this year. Check out his page here. Keep on sniffing those books, hear. The world needs booklovers. - Tim
SunSet at Truro................I could not go to court on it and swear if the sunset is to be seen. I am going in August or Sept. and will let you know!
My quibble with Still Alice is there was a movie made for TV in 1985 starring Joanne Woodward called Do You Remember Love about a college professor woman who gets early on set Alzheimers! You can check it out on Google!
About Cape Cod: My in-laws have a house on a hill in Truro(the outer Cape just below Provincetown. I am sure I have seen some sunsets in the 27 years I have been visiting there! Chatham is about 40 minutes down from there. Is that what you meant, that you could not see a sunset from Chatham?
I grew up on the MainLine, graduated from Lower Merion High School 1,000 years ago and now live in Haddonfield,N.J. area.
It has taken me only two days to almost finish Still Alice.
Thanks ! I should have thought of doing that myself. And yes, I can easily do that myself in your library.

Thanks for all your help.
Oh yes, that is one of the few things I find annoying about LibraryThing ... that you go to reply and then "lose" the person's original comment. I usually do what you did and then delete the original after I've written my reply.

I suppose I can relate—I can be pretty snarky myself as well. I just think it should be kept in the context of the book that's being reviewed. It's one thing critiquing someone as an author; it's quite another to make a statement about who they are as a person. But of course it's also a fine line to walk, and I'm not entirely sure whether one of my reviews crossed it or not. Oh well. I see you have many memoirs in your collection: are there any in particular that you'd recommend? Hampl's was my first.
Regarding your review for Patricia Hampl's The Florist's Daughter, how can you look at someone's picture and decide you don't much care for them as a person? Granted, I'm new to the memoir genre, and obviously tastes will differ, but that struck me as a little bit shallow. I met the real deal at a writing conference and she was quite gracious and friendly.
Hi! I'm helping Abby answer questions.

If you haven't gotten your book yet, check the LibraryThing group thread about it:
http://www.librarything.com/groups/early...

If lots of other people havn't gotten theirs, then you're probably safe - the books just haven't arrived yet. If everyone else has gotten theirs, that's cause to contact us and ask about it.

Cheers,
Sonya
Hi Bobbie - wish I could remember what book(s) I added after looking at your library. It may have been during a pursuit of a "Black Olives" review, which had an interesting premise. I use LT to catalogue the books I've read and to finally list the books I want to read from recommendations that are written on various pieces of paper from friends, Book Page, Bookmark, my book club and newspapers. LT has been a wonderful source - one book leads to another, etc. I was taken by the picture of your cat. We are also owned by a cat, Simon - an elderly Siamese who has never gone outside, but is determined to get there. Hope you like "Skeletons at the Feast." I am currently reading "The Clarinet Polka" by Keith Maillard and enjoying it very much, although I don't have a drop of Polish blood or any musical ability. I liked his writing style after reading "Gloria," which is often how I discover new books. Hope you find something memorable to read and will let me know so we can share a bibliophile moment.
Pat
Hi Bobbie-I have enjoyed looking at your library and added a few books. LT is such an addictive site, and how reassuring to know just how many other book addicts there are in the world. I love Swarthmore - the college and the town. I went to Grinnell College in Iowa, which is very similar academically. I just finished "Skeletons at the Feast" by Chris Bohjalian, which is excellent. I will continue to peruse your list and hope to be your bibliophile friend.
