1. Where is pony? :)
2. Yes, good on “Agatha Yarnell.” You may have noticed that she now has attained actual existence (well, at least a virtual one) as a tag (!) on Amazon, and in at least one message on beliefnet, as in, “Yarnell's life sentence has, by the way, been overturned by a Texas appeals court.”

Saw your comment re: "Tom's Midnight Garden", and your request for any additional recommendations for your 7-year-old. I read "Tom" to my four-year-old and she adored it. I first read it when I was 12, and much of its magic is that Tom is right in that twilight period where he's not quite a child but not yet a grown-up. I think a precocious 7-year-old might like it a lot, particular if the child has a somewhat sensitive side - no dragons or spaceships or atomic ray guns here! Even if he reads it now, I'd urge him to re-read it about the time he first starts to notice girls.
I didn't learn to read until I was about seven, and I doubt your child would be interested in "Peanuts the Pony" or "I Can Read!" so I don't have a great sense of what a typical 7-year-old boy would like (assuming such a thing as "typical" exists), but my wife reviews children's books and I've asked her to give me a few recommendations when she's free. I'll forward those soonest.
BTW - Sounds like we've pursued parallel paths in our careers - journalism into PR. We also have the Bay Area in common. I was raised in San Jose and San Bruno, though not in a McMansion!
