no, i've not read The Devil and the Dervish, but would be interested to. i have one of his collection of short stories, The Damned Yard, which i still have to read though. apparently, he first wrote short stories before venturing into novel form, and wrote a lot of them. i picked up my copy of the Andrić books when i was in Belgrade last summer. a local publisher, Dereta, published and sold them directly at much cheaper prices than one can get them elsewhere.
good to see that Saramago is in your list of favorite authors.
