To put items in your "to read" collection, there is an icon that looks like a triangle on top of a box on the right of every item in your catalog view. You can change what collections an item's in there.

If you're looking at an individual item (instead of your whole catalog), the same icon and control appears in the main part of the page where it says "Collections".
