About meI am a SAHM with four kids from high school age down to elementary school age. I love to read all of the time and don't feel quite right if I haven't read for at least a small amount of time each day. I will read nearly everything and can usually find something that I like in every type of book. I am also a movieaholic and really like to read a book and then see the movie - although it is rare to find a movie as good as the book (and sometimes that even follows the book). All of my children seem to be following right in my footsteps!

About my libraryMy library is only a small sampling of my actual home library which consists of two tall bookscases in the living room full of books, a tall bookcase in the dining room full of cookbooks, two bookcases in the basement full of books (about to become three bookscases in the basement) and one tall bookcase and two short bookcases in my bedroom, you guessed it, full of books. My children's room are also full of books and there are boxes full of books in various places through the house. Someday, I hope to catalog more of my books but right now I am too busy on this website and reading all of those books.

Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I do look forward to your review of Page's book -- I have a feeling I shall be reading it myself someday. As a teacher I saw such a wide variety of behavioral and learning disability that I began to believe we're in the very early days of understanding it all -- and then of course there's doing something about it. I think about the children I grew up with in a small Texas town in the 50s. I know that school was hard for some of them -- very painful and frustrating -- and yet there were no special classes or aides or counselors to help them. There was a boy named Larry who sat across from me in third grade. He was the happiest kid on the playground but I would watch tears roll down his cheeks when he saw the grades on his arithmetic papers. The teachers did what they could to help him and goodness knows he tried, but he needed more help than they knew how to give.

I was an anxious child -- very shy -- and I wish there had been more help for me, too. I loved school and books and my teachers, but I think back to how frightened I was -- how much I worried about every little thing -- and I wish I could do something to ease that child's mind.

Thank goodness your children live in more enlightened times. Thank goodness for you, too. I know my father worried about me, but in those days there was such a stigma attached to seeking professional help. He and I were very much alike -- and I think he could have used counseling himself.

I see we have some books in common . . . several recents book like The Housekeeper and the Professor and When You Reach Me . . . I enjoyed both of those so much.

Write again when you can . . . I hope you and your family have a lovely Thanksgiving.

on 75 books, that is ;->
Hope everything is going well in your part of the world. Noticed you hadn't posted in a while and thought I'd let you know we noticed.

Cheers,
Susan
One of the things you might consider is seperating the books like I do:

The very heavy or expensive books I list on Bookins (send me your email address and I'll send you an invite) or they will go to a used book store.

For lower-priced books, books in less than steller condition, or books the bookstore has refused, you can list those on Bookmooch with condition notes.

This is pretty easily accomplished if you just put two boxes next to each other somewhere at home; one with Bookmooch, and one with Bookstore and plop books into them when convenient. When full, dispense and repeat. ;)

I think you will find this will be a fun read. Many of our members are returning book group readers and are *amazing* in their insightful comments.

Added to the fact that The (oh-so-fantastic) Tortoise and I have arranged for PRIZES what could be better?

We have many prizes not mentioned yet, so hopefully you will win one of them while reading with the group.

I saw you had many kids; have you taken a look at Bookmooch yet? http://www.bookmooch.com

Lots of books to trade!

It's probably a PG-13 so the youngsters could go see it. I don't think there's a "scary factor" for the ratings, just sex, violence and language. It's more suspenseful and intense than terrifying, actually. PLUS, it has a great message to it, one that the book did not have. Watch it during the day, put on a nice happy unicorn movie afterwards to distance yourself from it to prevent sleeping with the lights on, you know. :-D It is a good movie.
Yeah, in my opinion, the movie is even scarier than the short story. So you might not want let the little'uns watch it. ;-)
Those were the two I didn't like, either. I just didn't get the point to the carnival one. I kept waiting for the carny to drop dead, or the contestant to become a moster or alien or something. And the whole Loopy one just was so "eh", though that one has been made into a movie with Robert Englund Freddy Kruger of Elm Street fame as the barker for the Loopy.

My favorite ones were the funeral with the fictional monsters in attendance, the one with the hunter/doll, and the Witch Doctor one.
I'm curious to know which of the Legend stories you didn't like. I'm wondering if their the same as mine. :-D
If no one has snagged The Guardians I will take it.
Hi, I sent her a message. Thanks again.

Actually Pushing up Daisies came in the mail today. As soon as I read it I'll pass it on to the next interested person if you message me the name and address. Thanks again.

Carrie
No problem. I appreciate you taking time out to send it to me. I will send it out to someone else. I think books are made to be passed around. Thanks again for the book.

Carrie
I was gonna ask for Pushing Up Daisies, but looks like someone else did. If they don't want for some reason..let me know!! :-)
Hi, If noone has asked for Pushing Up Daisies, I'll take it.

Thanks, Carrie
It was difficult for us when I was a stay at home mom, too.. but I suspect it is even harder now. We had zero money for extras like vacation and fancy clothes. Even books were hard come by, but we were in walking distance from the library ! I promise that you will never have a moments regret. A school is perfect, as you are able to be with the kids when they are home. I too started working when my youngest was in second grade.. I worked "mothers hours" at a couple of places when we lived in Massachusetts.. we lived there for 3 years when the steel mills shut down in Pgh ..It was easier to find that sort of job there. Then when my youngest was in 6th grade we were back home in Pgh and I went back to work, mostly in medical sorts of environments which gave me good hours. I wish that I had known then about the job that I have now!perfect schedule...tough job though. I imagine that it would have been easier when I was younger.

It is very hard having the kids far away. Very hard. I miss them every single day. But they are doing what they want.. and having lives that they enjoy. Still.. I often wish they were close..

take care and have a great weekend.
