About meI've been in love with books from an early age. I first began working in libraries in high school. I continued living and working in libraries all through undergraduate and two graduate programs. And guess what, I'm not a librarian! I'm a social worker, a school social worker to be exact. But that's okay, because my home is now a library. I have just begun cataloguing my collection on LibraryThing. I am almost afraid to see the final tally, though I know it will only be temporary. I continue to bring new acquisition home.
My wife finally demanded, "No more bookcases in the bedroom!" Of course, my response was, "Look, I don't gamble, I don't hangout at the bars with the guys, I'm never gone on a fishing or hunting trip, and I don't sleep around. I love books! Now could you roll over and grab that volume of Merton from the bookcase where your bedside table used to be."
The saddest day in my life was when I donate 50,000 books to a local non-profit for their annual book sale. For six years prior I owned and operate a used bookstore. The shop was 4,000 square feet and I had approximately 100,000 volumes in stock. I never looked forward to going to work everyday as much as I did during those six years. That shop was my little refuge in this troubled world. Being surrounded by books has a calming effect on me. And no, that doesn’t mean I still have the remaining 50,000 books. Most of them were sold off when I closed up shop. I still have a few…thousand.
About my libraryIf you see it listed here, I own it and it is currently in my library. I don't keep want lists in this catalog.
