About meI found this site through Bookcrossing.com. I have found a way to get books entered even though I don't have Internet access at home. Don't tell my boss.

I am a local actress with a dull day job. So, I'm living the dream, but only part-time (for now).

WARNING: If you have anything unkind to say to me and post it privately here, be prepared to have it publicised. If you have anything unkind to say about anybody else, I'll keep it a secret. Honest. ;)

About my libraryI have an eclectic collection on my shelves and it is always growing at an alarming rate. Of course, I haven't read all, or even most, of my current acquisitions. I'm working on it.

Why didn't anybody tell me I had such haynus misspellings on my profile?!?

Hello all "LG" members! To try to spur us all on to do a bit more on our LG site, I thought I'd write each of you a note.
I have a renewed interest in LG due to the horrid (13degrees) weather here. I was bored & perused my lost generation books where I came upon "Found Meals of the Lost Generation", by Suzanne Rodriguez-Hunter. When I purchased the book, I must admit I looked at the recipes & ignored the accompanying text. In reading it through, I am finding it a delight. Neat little thumbnail sketches of the time with recipes for foods they served/may have served in Paris. The book is dotted with post-its & my Amazon cart has some new things to read, e.g., "Nightwood" by Djuna Barnes.
Am looking forward to some news from our members as to what new relevant books you've read or really, anything to do with the time. Thanks, Judie
I'm failing horribly at keeping up with my NaNo word count. Meh, it's my first year, and life is a bit chaotic right now, which doesn't lend itself to concentration.

I love that you've cataloged your books by the box they're in. I've scanned in four boxes that I don't really want to re-open, or I'd do the same.
Wow, we have a lot of books in common considering I've only entered 100 so far (just started this week).

Have you read The Quincunx?
25 minutes or less.
sorry, but i have nothing unkind to say.

dammit.
We only share 2 books, but Memnoch the Devil was the best in that series (if you ask me). New to LT. Just saying hello.. Hello!

-Shane
Thanks for the friend request and the nice note. I'm glad my blog posts are occasionally of help to others!
Hello Bookish;
You have a very extensive list; and good luck with your acting . . .
John
Hi! You have *such* a cool library. I browsed through it and found dozens of new books I want to read now. :D
Hi Bookish - the gang over in 1001 Books was wondering what the status of the copy of Adjunct: an Undigest that is circulating through the group was - making any progress?
If you care, someone has indeed started a "Lost" group called "The Island". Not much activity - perhaps my over-enthusiasm scared everyone off. Wouldn't be the first time.
Wow, there are GROUPS now! Shows you how much I hang out here. I'll have to look for a BPAL group! :)
Hey, I just noticed that someone on your comments made a reference to the Asylum Street Spankers. I saw them a few times around 10 years ago, when I lived in Austin. I didn't go too often, because I worked a guy who always hung around at their shows, and who was a certifiable jack@ss.* Ah memories.

*If you have some affiliation with said jack@ss, I will be quite embarrassed.
Hello, I came here from the Nabokov discussion. Looks like we pretty much agree that Lolita is a catalyst for Humbert's self-destruction. Or something.

But the reason I'm leaving you a message is that I noticed you have some "Lost" related tags. Are you aware of any LT groups that deal specifically with the series? I'm hesitant to instigate a Television group on a site for book lovers, but I also know the Jane Austen aficionados have their own discussions re the PBS series.

A group called Reading "Lost" might be useful for discussing the various psychological, philosophical, and literary references in the show, especially as they might be of interest to bookish types.
Maybe we should make it for dog-snoggers too.
Just to let you know, LTers with Dogs is now a Group. Hope you'll join in!
sorry lol

Work makes me braindead lol
you got it :) Send me your adrress and name and I will put it in the mail tomorrow :)
Thanks for joining the SC libraries group! Also see my personal library thing page (elvisettey) for a sampling of my more eclectic personal tastes. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Un Lun Dun was great, but here's a question: Our library has it cataloged as adult fiction. Does it belong there, young adult, or juvenile? Would love to hear the opinions of anyone who's read it.
Well I’m glad to know that someone else has taste that’s almost as messed up as mine. I was beginning to think I was the only one.
I've spotted a few 98%s and 99%s...
But only one single digit, which was a 2%!
I saw your reference to 'The Seal' on another thread; I can't remember which one so I'll post the answer here. It's called 'Gosling's Black Seal Rum' - best stuff in the world. My Bermudian relatives bring me bottles of the stuff when they come to visit. Although Goslings is a Bermudian based company (like Bacardi), the stuff is actually made in Jamaica. Here is their website: www.goslingsrum.com.
How do you like [Lost Girls]? I have this theory that the whole point of the piece is, by the end, making the reader uneffected by sexual images. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the info. My initial Spanking was unfortunately interrupted, but I enjoyed it up till then, and I`m going back for more at a later date !

All the best,

Nick
How's the play going?
I shall investigate. Cheers.
Somewhat belatedly (only just seen your message of 23 Feb re banned books) - my enquiring mind obliges me to ask - who or what are the Asylum Street Spankers ? We certainly live in an interesting world.

Best,

Nick
Un Lun Dun is downright "whimsical" but with China's complex imaginings! Fabulous people and creatures and a bit of a quest story (like Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz) but with a bit of a twist. A fun read. I'm not sure if he will write more than three of the Bas Lag novels. He strikes me as an author who wants to do something different every time. Still, I will read anything the man writes.
So how are you liking Un Lun Dun? - Lois
A friend loaned me Lost Girls, because I am such a big Moore fan. She warned me about the graphic sex, so I was prepared for that. After the second volume it was starting to bore me, but she needed it back, so I plowed through the third volume in one sitting. The last few panels blew me away, and made the whole journey worthwhile. Most people I know who read it get bogged down in the overwhelming deluge of sex, but if you can get past it, it really has a punch.
Great news about your new part! Well done.
Just thought I'd have a look at your profile because we're both in the All the Worlds a stage group. I love the fact that you describe your acting career as living the dream. That's exactly how my boyfriend describes his job now that he has graduated from Drama school after many years of working behind a desk! Good luck to you (or break a leg; whichever you prefer!)
That set sounds divine--I am adding it to my catalog! Thanks!
Lost Girls? What is that about?
Hi bookishbunny and thanks for visiting,

As I'm always looking for something new, I've been through your author's gallery and I think that I just must add Anne Ursu to mine...what a lovely portrait and it's in black as white as well. I suppose it's silly to choose authors this way but there are just so many.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in NYC and of course we'll always have Paris, but if I was young and had it all to do again I'd go to Asia: Bangkok, Vientiane, Hanoi...and most especially Vientiane
can a subway approach?
How did you like Rescue Me?

The Vendela Vida is on my to do list as well...
Oui, indeed.

I`m in two minds about our little playmate, I`m not sure he`s as harmless as all that - I may be wrong, but I suspect he could be in the MrKris category. Having said that, I`m alays wary of reading too much into the written word, as sometimes `tone of voice` completely alters interpretation.

Anyway, that`s all a bit serious.

You will indeed see me back on LT in due course, but at the moment our little book business is having a Xmas rush and we have other stuff to do - also we`re looking to leave Nott`m for the Derbyshire mining town (former mining town I should say) of Heanor - hopefully in Jan.

Another thing about LT is - every time I go on the system, some bugger breaks my concentration by knocking at the door - which is what`s just happened ! Must go.

Best,

Nick
Classic posting on the humour thread - I laughed out loud.

Good luck to you.

Nick
Hey, looks great! Glad it worked for you.
Well, I couldn't tell you. She just loves to sleep on my books whenever I leave them on my bed. And it doesn't matter if they're thin or inches thick. I guess she wishes she could read... The other two kitties sleep at a respectful distance from whatever I have laying around. But then Artemis (the one on the picture) IS the smartest one of the bunch. I'd love to discuss Nietzsche with her because my roommates aren't very useful for that. They don't read, or sleep on books...

The Chilis were great! I already saw them twice about ten years ago but was really disappointed both times so I gave them another chance yesterday. And it was worth it. So I think the next time they come to Zurich, I'll be there again.
I don't I'm afraid. I don't know much about it. I'm assuming it's a magazine. Do you write as well as act?
thanks, I love the cover view too, and thought I'd spruce up my profile page a bit.
The Bunny vampire has landed... :D Thanks very much, we're going to enjoy reading this tonight!
Thanks for the info. I guess I missed that group. So, I've joined. We seem to be up to 5 members now but only you have posted. I'll try to rectify that.
Congrats on finishing A Tale of a Tub, I just read your post, what did you think. I have about 2 sections left. But I have to finish 1984 for school. Next for me is Castle Rackrent my Maria Edgeworth.
Nice! Are you reading the 1001 like I am, that would be awesome to read at the same pace as someone and the same books. Im doing it like this in chronological order. 1 from pre-1700, 1 from 1700, 2 from 1800, 4 from 1900, and 1 from 2000. Then again and again till i get it done.
Awww, thank you!
Well, I feel once you get past the digressions the story is very good. I like the satrical aspects of it. I just got my 1001 books in the mail today from Amazon. Finally, I am almost done A Tale of a Tub.
Hey-

I just love your idea on what to use for bookmarks (thread in Book Talk). I had never thought of using paint samples, but it's worked out pretty nicely. I picked up some at Home Depot, and they are Disney paint samples! They are a little square with Mickey's Head in the bright about what a clever idea it is! Thanks for the suggestion!

-Annie-
I had a question for you. We both are reading a Tale of a Tub, I think on Project Gutenberg, What pG. are you on?. I was thinking maybe we could discuss it after were both done?
Thanks for joining the Humor group.

Happy cataloging to you.
Hi,

Just a quick note to say I`ve seen your reply to me re : Banned books. There`s an interesting discussion to be had here, but I thought I`d see what responses others come up with before responding.

I`m still not entirely clear whether the same situation applies in the UK as US - the impression I get from you and others is that you`re talking about a situation where, eg, a library is told they cannot or should not order a given title, presumably by someone in authority.

I`m not entirely clear whether that would be the situation over here. One difference might be that in the UK, the librarian in a public library is ultimately responsible to an elected local council (local authority). I wonder if that`s the same in America ?

Anyway, that was just me thinking aloud, I really just wanted to say thanks for replying to my posting etc.

Best,

Nick
Yes! I subscribed to Tin House this year after finding 3 of last year's issues at a used bookstore (got all 3 for $1.00). Great stuff, although it took 3 months for me to get the first issue. Am trying to wait patiently for the next one.
I guess our lack of overlap proves Tin House readers have eclectic tastes :)

Of course, my catalog is also far from complete; I think I saw 5 or 6 books in yours that I do own but haven't cataloged yet.
Edward Gorey fan. Cool. Glad to see you in the Esoterica group.
