About meI’m a thirty something female who has worked in the book industry for four years (but not for a publisher), and who has been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. Before working in the book industry I worked in cinemas for years and years and I am also very passionate about film. I am Australian but I have also lived in the U.K. and in Canada. I am interested in and like to read a broad range of different kinds of books but lately I find that my interest tends towards narrative non-fiction.

About my libraryI still have lots to add but I think I'll just do it a bit at a time. My library represents books I have read/am reading, not books that I own. I happen to own quite a few books that I haven't got around to reading yet.

I will most certainly let you know when I read something by Pico Iyer...however, it could be a while based on my existing TBR stacks!
Hi,

Saw you liked Trainspotting, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reading my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). Thought you might like my novel since it's also about a group of disturbed kids and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hello b.

Thames, Sacred River is a book I look at now and again - usually a chapter at a time. Haven't really got into it in the 'I must read just one more page' sense. Wouldn't call it riveting, but definitely interesting. I think it might be one of those books that are waiting for me to be in just-the-right-mood.
It's certainly good to have a look at when the Thames is mentioned in other books - to see what Ackroyd has to say about a particular aspect/historical fact, etc. And I do like this authors way with words - quite poetic.

I don't know how much of LibraryThing you've had a chance to explore yet, but you could, for example, open a 'Thames, Sacred River' thread in the Book Talk group if you want to hear what others have to say about Ackroyd's book. Or you could enter the title in the Search thingy (I never know the correct terms for these things) and see what comes up. You've probably already seen 'Groups' and 'Search' at the top of your profile page.

Happy hunting!
