I received the book, and I couldn't be happier. It's absolutely gorgeous. You did an impeccable job. Thank you so much.
Thank you!
My pleasure, bookjones. I'm glad you liked the books, and happy holidays to you.
Anxiously awaiting word on the new Leyner. Who am I kidding? I'll buy it no matter what!
Thanks for the tip about "Tracking ST 2011 Arrivals" thread. I'm just sorry I didn't know about it sooner so he could get a accurate date as to when my package arrived. I can tell you it was soon after the book picking date, well done.

Can't for my location marker to be added to the awesome SantaThing 2011 GoogleMap

By the way, the Santa Thing Amazon list is a great idea. I always pick out more books than can be bought for my person. I hate having to chop it down. In the future, I won't have to. I can copy you and make a list.

After weeks of waiting, I finally tore into my SantaThing box from Amazon. I am happily contented with your selections. Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was a nice touch. I've read several articles on the disgrace over the past year. Plus the concept of her history was the story line on one of the police procedural shows. I can't remember if it was Law & Order, CSI, Criminal Minds or NCIS.

Thanks for being a perceptive Secret Santa.

Happy New Years and hope you enjoy your gifts as much as I enjoy mine.

Debra
Howdy,

I have one of those Map Loco thingies, too, and what I find irritating is not knowing why someone from a land far, far away (or even nearby) has come to visit my library; thus, in case you care, I came to your library today to see just who is the "king/queen/insert royal title here" of the ARC's on LT (I'm in a distant 6th place with a pack of arc-wolves hot on my heels). And now, I'm going to take the sage advice espoused by your profile photo.

Later,
bookstothesky
Hello there, Mr. Jones! Or can I call you Book? I was just going through my library, and noticed that you and I are the only two LibraryThing members to have a copy of Hellcats, Vixens, & Vicedolls listed in our library. Lately I have been trying to review books on my list owned only by myself, and thought I would try to encourage you to enter a review on this uncommon title. Reviewing little-known books is a great way to raise awareness of the multitude of reading material already available above and beyond the latest releases, ands adds a bit of variety to the review sections. I also think it is kind of fun.

Hopefully, I can convince you to review this title and help it gain a little more recognition. If not, I understand completely, and if so, I look forward to reading it.

Thank you for indulging me,

Scott
Thanks for adding me to your list of interesting libraries!

Hello bookjones, thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries. I see you are a fellow Chicagoan and fan of New York Review Books. I am part way through The True Deceiver right now. I am a Tove Jansson fan but am finding this very different than her other work.

Cheers, Maren
Thank you for the kind words and the suggestions; but as I mentioned to another poster, my cataloguing impulses have dwindled considerably, and although I could continue fine-tuning the tags for a long, long time, it may be better not to head down that path.

And yes, it's a pity that we haven't talked more; I do hope you will visit or send an email so that we can stay in touch one way or another.
Thank you for adding my library to your " interesting librairies" list.
Regards.
Noticed you liked Tim Gautreaux, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's similar to Gautreaux's work (Tim Gautreaux actually directed my master's thesis). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi Bookjones -- We noticed that there's a library discussion of one of our books coming up soon. Not sure who's organizing, but we'd be happy to answer any questions about The Black Sheep. You can reach us via our website -- collinsrideout.com

Sandy Rideout

Hi bookjones!

Just wanted to stop by to thank you for the wonderful thread of annual "bests." What a treasure. I'm going to be referring back to it throughout the year.

My best,

Teresa
I put in several Free Library of Philadelphia branches, and inadvertently made some duplicates, which now I have asked to be combined, but I also have asked for combinations from others for bookstores and libraries. I even poked around in other cities and found a couple of combinations to be done there, too. I don't know if it will be enough for a badge, but who cares, we have more accurate local pages.

I have also been adding photos for bookstores and libraries, with the ambition to have a photo or two of every one of the 54 FLP branches.

Some cities have plenty of bookstore and library venues, but some I find are rather sparse.

Thanks for the 'interesting libraries' add!

Can I ask a bit of advice? I'm going to be in Chicago for a week over Thanksgiving. I've been before, but have never tracked down an interesting used bookstore - full of the sort of quirky books that both you and I seem to gravitate towards! Do you have any recommendations? I love 'new' bookshops too - I've spent many happy hours in the Borders besides the Water Tower on the Magnificent Mile - but it's that insiders' knowledge to the city that I lack!
Well I am afraid both of us will have to wait until next year! I can't believe how bad the Cubs played! It was painful. I do hope that the Rays beat the Red Sox. In the National League I don't care
Michael
Hi, this being a big trade day in baseball Ken Griffey to the White Sox! I've been a fan of Griffey since his days in Seattle, he should have stayed there. If he would have remained healthy what a careeer he would have had. Oh well. So will it be a Chicago world series?
Michael
Now that you finished the Baxter, I am curious - what did you think of the ending?

We had quite the conversations around the office among those of us who read it early. (It was holiday time in retail, however, so I don't exactly recall the comments.)

I think most of us thought it was incredibly well written - every word had a purpose. We did have some different ideas, however, about exactly what happened.

I would definitely go pick up more of his work if I were you.
I saw you just added the Charles Baxter. I would love to know what you think of it when you are done. I have read it and there is lots of discussion around our bookshop office...

thanks for the tip! I will definitely check it out.
Bookjones: This is a reply to your message about "Grotesque". ("Just curious, but were you ever able to determine whether your UK version of Grotesque published by Harvill Secker that you mentioned in the "Where are you now?" thread was uncensored?"). No. I had an idea in my mind that the main character met a young relative that I thought was possibly a homosexual prostitute but I couldn't find him in a cursory relook through the text (I was very busy workwise at the time). But without knowing what was said in the original it's hard to know whether this edition was censored. From what I've seen with other books US versions can be censored when UK versions are not even when based on the same translation.
Bookjones, anyone that reads D.H. Lawrence is person of taste and high stranders! I like your picture and your library. Oh yes I am a Cub fan. A romantic
Michael
Damn - I didn't win it, yet again! In Dublin right now
