I have another book posted on BookMooch (just posted it today) that you might want. Let me know either way because you seem to be the only person with this book on your wishlist! :)

If you're going in December, bring a raincoat, umbrella and *warm* clothes! Sometimes it even snows in Jerusalem in the winter.
My last trip there was in 2001. I need to go back again.

I *loved* Edeet Ravel's Ten Thousand Lovers. The ending just blew me away. I have her other two books as well but have not yet read them.
Keep me posted if you have any other good Israeli novels to give away via BookMooch, and I'll do the same for you. It's not all that often I find one, though. I get very excited when I do.
Best,
Madeline

I just finished The Way to the Cats (Yehoshua Kenaz) and loved it! I know it's in your library. Have you read it yet?

Well the beach is always nice! You should travel inland, it can be really beautiful. I know that West Virginia is gorgeous on (I think) Smoky Mountain. Worth a look eventually! Pennsylvania has a ton of trees, it is just gorgeous. I'm pretty sure that Maryland has this cave exhibit where you can go into the cave and they give you a guide. There is one portion where they show how the gravity is different. They place a ball on a rail at the bottom of it (rail slopes down) and the ball goes up! Beautiful caves!

Is it a good health care plan though? And yea, I understand tax but it seems that other countries who pay a higher tax have a better living condition and a more stable economy... (because the govt. can afford things! We complain so much, but we are all so very very young).
Haha, yea it seems that we are less diverse over in the midwest because peopel from other countries tend to go to the east or west coast where the cities are famous and warm! :D Which is fine with me because I don't like to be crowded like in New York and such.
Great! Then I'll fit right in with some Swedish and a good attitude lol.

Yea, I was confused as to why touchstones don't work in comments, but I suppose that it makes it less complicated for a profile page! I would love for him to keep writing the writing the series, he is a great author. :) He has actually announced that he gave the typescript of the third book to HaperCollins, and the title is Absolute Midnight! The tentative release date is 2010. The fourth book is going to be called The Dynasty of Dreamers. There isn't an official title for the fifth book, but there is speculation on the official website. It is comforting to know that although he has been writing adult novels during this hiatus, he has worked on his paintings for the series and he now has over 500!
I love that about Europe, that you can visit so many different things in the same time it takes to drive to the south from Michigan! It's amazing all the varied cultures and you can experience so much. I am truly jealous!
What's it like politically like there? Liberal? What about medical needs and freedoms? And Sweden is neutral isn't it? So they don't get involved in many wars?
Lol, I love that you guys make it easy for people to learn the language! Here, you can get away with not knowing how to speak a thing and it's really very frustrating when people refuse to adapt to someone's culture. I think if you are going to move someplace, you need to respect that culture and attempt to learn their traditions and to at least know many basic phrases etc... And really, it's so very hard to be good at a language when you can't naturally experience it with many other people.
I love eco- friendly things! I think it's a great way to preserve what we have and it can also be very beneficial to one's health and expenses. Do you guys have as much boxed and pre- made foods like we do? I think we are so lazy here and fatten ourselves up cuz we can't take the time to eat healthy. :( I live in Michigan, so I'm used to yucky weather; hot, cold, snowy, freezing, rainy, downpour... everything!
Haha, of course, that's what mothers do! I'm sure you will love being back home! And you have a lifetime to travel to the rest of the world.... China is amazing, I loved their culture and the people were so friendly and curious.

I love your 999 challenge, I have my own but it's not as interesting and sophisticated as yours!
I don't think I have anything else to add...

Wow, that just sounds amazing! I wish I could travel like that! Which place do you enjoy living in the most? And yea, I totally understand that, we Americans are so ignorant and selfish.
How difficult is it to learn Swedish? Are there many people willing to teach it? I've heard that Sweden is very huge on the "green" program, with thermoheating and cooling, hydrogen fuel, etc... true? What kind of jobs are most available? I want to be a chemical engineer and I'm pretty sure Sweden is a big contributing country in the science field... lol, i have bad memory!
Yea, I really want to travel and maybe live in other countries... I have actually visited China for three weeks and it just opened my world! I cannot believe that people have not experience these kinds of cultures!

I spoke too soon. I see what you mean about “Scream Queens…”. It has gotten *very* bizarre and seems to go off on many difficult-to-read tangents, at least where I am in the book right now. I guess I’ll have to take away at least one star! :)
It is so much fun to have close friends who are Israelis. And, yes, it’s kind of hard to get into their circle, but once you’re in, you’re hooked for life. My whole mother’s family is Israeli, but I never got to know them until I lived in Israel for a year as a volunteer nurse (1972-1973). One of my dearest friends is an Israeli woman I met in the Washington, DC, area when my kids were little. She and I basically raised our kids together until she decided to return to Israel fifteen years ago. That was so sad for me, but our families still stay in touch and sometimes even visit.
I am so excited to find someone who is as interested as I am in modern Israeli literature. Jewish literature is one thing, but Israeli literature is a totally different ball game.
Where does your friend in Israel live? You *must* visit Israel. Do not delay. You’ll feel right at home there.
Best,
Madeline
P.S. Your two books have been mailed! :)

I started reading your "Scream Queens..." and think it's hilarious. I noticed from your review that you didn't care for it all that much.
I was just interested in why you like to read israeli fiction so much? Did you ever live in Israel? Do you have friends who are Israeli? Having lived in Israel myself, I find much Israeli fiction has content that is "over the head" of people who have never been involved with Israeli culture per se.
I still need to pack up your two books which are now sitting on my kitchen table... :)
I'm going to keep an eye on your BookMooch inventory. I think you have the best one of all BookMoochers!

I'm here through the 999 Challenge forums, I noticed your opinion of Gilad Atzmon's Guide to the Perplexed was very similar to mine, *and* I also noticed you haven't read any books from Kyrgyzstan yet... so I'd like to recommend Chingiz Aitmatov.

I frankly don't know if you'll be able to get ahold of his works in English or Swedish, though. :( Here in Hungary most of his output has been published and many of them are even currently in print, which is how I managed to read them (well, to be precise, *most* of them - I have 1.5 to go).

/Cecilia

over here for the moment we have 25 ° celcius and that's ok for me, I dont like it when we have 30° celcius or more,
I would like to go to Sweden once but have to convince my husband since he is afraid of having cold, but I think in summer the weather in the south of Sweden is much the same as here in Belgium
My sister is going on holiday to Sweden this summer
I am still translating poems of Dan Andersson, for the moment, Till min sister, Aan mijn zuster in Dutch, you see, it's very alike,
when I dont find a word, because Dan Andersson often used words that are not Swedish but Fins -Swedish, a friend of my daughter who already knows soms Swedish is helping me out .
I ordered another cd from Sofia Karlsson, Folk songs, I already have ' Visor from vinden, and ' Svarta Ballader ', do you know her?
I like her singing very much,

I am glad you answered my mail
I am living in Belgium and speaking Dutch, most belgiums are speaking Dutch, the others are speaking French en a small part of us is speaking german
I find Swedish a very melodic language and it is related to Dutch, so I am surprised that you learned it not a bit by living in Amsterdam, the words often are very much the same but I think the most difficult thing is the prononciation.
I like very much the poems of Dan Andersson and the music of Sofia Karlsson , also I admire Anne Sofie von Otter and Benny Andersson, his musical Kristina , a real juwel,
I am reading Vilhem Möberg ' The Emigrants ' for the second time, I like that very much

I was looking for books from Dan Andersson. I very much like the songs of Sofia Karlsson, and buyed the cd ' Svarta Ballader ' since I could not find an English translation of the Swedish Songs I started to translate them myself,
very hard to do because I dont speak Swedish but Dutch. By doing this translations I am beginning to take an intrest in Swedish en now I am planning to learn the language, starting in september.
Over here in Belgium, I cant find books of Dan Andersson, neither in Englisch or in Swedish.
