About meI'm a 52-yr-old 2-year ovarian cancer survivor. I live with my wonderful husband who has been a fantastic caretaker when needed, and my warm, furry, purry companion, Mrs. Gaskell, who loves to cuddle early in the morning while I read and drink my coffee.

We have a grown son who graduated with a double major (History and Political Science). He works at an elementary school and is extremely involved in community service. Obviously, we're very proud of him.

I'm a former bookseller. Unfortunately, the cancer has left me disabled and unable to work. I miss it terribly, but my family, Mrs. Gaskell, and my books have helped me adjust.

About my libraryI generally only add books to my library as I read them, or to my wishlist as a reminder to myself. I have read many, many more books than would be indicated by my LT library, and have many, many more on my shelves, waiting to be read that I haven't yet added to LT.

I have an eclectic taste in books, so you're liable to find titles from all kinds of genres in my collection as I build my library. My favorite genres and sub-genres are classics, especially English and American, mystery, especially cozies, and travel writing, espcecially exploration and Victorian travelogues.

Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you.
Wishing you strength and some good books to help you through this trying time.
HA! Get lemons, make lemonade. That's PERFECT.

Smiling at last, R
Dear Bookwoman247,
I've been following, with interest, your reading of the Amelia Peabody series. I was wondering if you knew of an accurate list of the books in order? I think it sounds like a hoot and a lovely way to spend the summer. So, I was writing to ask about that but then I read your profile and we have a couple of things in common!
I am a former (almost) 50 year old bookseller. I was in it for 25 years - my parents were quite disappointed but once you get a taste for working in books it's hard to shake. I too became ill with a thyroid disease and had to stop working about six years ago. I too have an amazing husband who took terrific care of me and thinks it is great that I don't work anymore. I have a version of Mrs. Gaskell(great name!) a calico darling named Kikiunalunalou Von Snugglesworth. It's a mouthful so she also answers to Kikina.
I just thought it was so funny - two former booksellers forced to retire and drink morning coffee with their furry darlings! It's a small world!

Cheers,
Enaid(Diane)
