Over from jlshall's page -- oh man, early Bellow is hilarious, esp Dangling Man. Well, I think it is, anyway....
I appreciate your “friend” invitation. I took the opportunity to visit your website. I look forward to reading Lincoln: President Elect, Abraham Lincoln and the Great Secession Winter 1860-1861 . One of my favorite historians when I started reading American history seriously was David Potter. In view of your recent immersion in the topic I was curious if you had read Lincoln and his Party in the Succession Crisis and if you did, how you felt it held up.
Hi, Brendan. Thanks for the friend invite. We seem to share a liking for Joan Didion, among others. I'm still in the process of adding all my books - time consuming but fun, too!
Hello Brendan,
I am flattered by being put on your interesting libraries list and also being added to your friends. I notice we do share some literary tastes. I have been a fan of Edmund Wilson for a while. The first book I read was "From the Finland Station". I buy a lot of used books and many of his that I have are used. A couple of weeks ago I got the three volume set that has "Classics and Commercials" in it. Then I came home and found out that the Library of America editions I have of his have two out of the three books in them. Ah well, just more ways to read them. I glanced over your web page and will come back when I have time to read. I hope your writing goes well. I always thought I wanted to write but I got sick and I have to make a living, I'm married. I don't have the time and to be honest the things I have written weren't real good. If I win the lottery, though I never play, I'll take the time to give it a real try. When you have the time drop me a line.
