I am just interested in history and in general about Rome. I have been living in Milan for a year. Before coming here I've lived for a year and a half in the US but I am originally from Rome.
Do you know of any other website similar to librarything but maybe more specialized in antiquarian books?
I was really impressed by your library, congratulations!!

Looks like history is your forte. Any ideas for companion/background material for Dante? Just finished Inferno and heading into Purgatory (in Italian and several English translations), but my knowledge of the period is weak . . . also starting to put together a study guide for the Italian partisans in WWII - any suggestions?

I'm so sorry about the books at school. The things I left at retirement were all scarfed up, but I remember that the young person who took my classes the first time I moved from a school threw away all the "junk" (low reading level/high interest books) that I had so painfully accumulated.
I confess that even though I'm retirement age (I spent 25+ years teaching private piano lessons), I left with only 18 years in the system. Don't regret it a minute! I have been spending too much time here. LTing and volunteering and swimming haven't left as much time for reading as I expected either, but I plan to mend my ways.
Anyhow, I appreciate your greeting, and I'll look forward to reading your posts at 30,000 feet.

The secret is to pick books that are very different from each other. That way you don't mix them up. I like to have different books started because some days I want to think, some days I want a bit of history, some days I want to laugh, some days I want to read brain candy :-) I also tend to read them in different places. Tale of Genji is for the balcony, Ulysses is the train ride to and from work and so on. What else makes it interesting is often I notice similarities between books that I normally wouldn't have if I had read them separately. Give it a go! It's alot of fun!
