About meThe Centre for Cape Breton Studies (CCBS) is a multi-functional and dynamic space located at Cape Breton University in Nova Scotia. CCBS offers programs in Folklore and Ethnomusicology, and acts as a vehicle for disseminating research to the local, national and international communities.
The Centre includes a state-of-the-art Rotary Music Performance Room as a research facility for the study of performance of intangible cultural heritage, including performances of oral narrative, theatre, and dance, but with a special emphasis on music. CCBS also serves as a community rehearsal and performance venue.
About my libraryThe library at the Centre for Cape Breton Studies(CCBS)reflects the activities of the Centre including a large collection of books about Cape Breton by local authors. There is an extensive collection of folklore texts with a focus on music, song, vernacular architecture, oral history, jokes and storytelling. In addition to these subjects, history books and classics round out the library with a good representation of related journals. CCBS in conjunction with Cape Breton University Press also publishes the journal Material Culture Review, formerly Material History Review.
