About meABOUT MY PHOTO
I left my heart in...well not quite SanFrancisco, but a little paradise just outside of San Francisco called Half Moon Bay.
This is a photo taken with a disposable camera of a place I spent my life seeking and will spend the rest of my life trying to return forever. If I ever settle down, it will be here in my utopia, Half Moon Bay.
..and if you go, say hello to Pete at Bach's Dynamite and Dancing Society. http://www.bachddsoc.org/

I've joined a lot of groups. Too many to keep up with.(Yeah, big surprise there, I know;)

Because of LT it seems I read more than I do anything else, except work on music, and I often feel tempted to take a SICK DAY so I can stay in bed and READ.
I rarely leave the house without a book. The best is reading about music!!!

Page is UPDATED Randomly and sporadically. Expect Changes!
Static is stagnant
So my profile changes with my whims.

WHO AM I?
Good question.
Here's some basics:

Musician: vocal, piano, guitar

Performer: theater and for anyone who stands
still long enough.

Late Night On-Air Host for Jazz 90.1FM Radio

Split personality-- half nomadic lone wolf and solitude seeker, half nomadic charismatic extrovert who loves crowds and talking to strangers. I know, weird. And these two halves are forever struggling for dominance. Actually, the only thing both sides agree on is that too stay in any one place too long is just, well, wrong!

Things which Haunt My Dreams
-'Accidentally' being locked in the Library of
Congress for a weekend.

-the colored lights on the sea's horizon just after sunset. There's something about that illusion of earth and sky joining and the lure of the edge of eternity. I've dreamed of finding the horizon since I was a little girl. I know it's just chasing a dream of being somewhere else and finding home.

-Building and running my dream cafe,
where ideas, art and music brew alongside the coffees, teas and gourmet nibbles.
Think modernized Victorian Salon blended with equal parts:
Sherpa Tea House deep in the Himalayas, a Dublin Pub, Paris patisserie, San Francisco coffee house, jazz club circa 1957 and The Cliff House.

-Performing for large crowds. Moving people with music and words. Making people 'feel' the moment with a clarity and depth, to see the world both inner and external the way I do. Creating unforgettable musical art.

-A year trekking the Amazon river basin with a camera
and blank notebooks to write in.

-Being put into suspended animation and rocketed out
into deep space at light speed for about 500 years
and then waking up to explore things no other
human being has ever seen.

-Sparkly, glittery things.
(call me Magpie:)

-Contributing one substantial, conscious altering,
original idea to the planet.
*I'd like more than one but I'm trying to be realistic:)

-Living a full year in an isolated cabin in the
remote wilds of Northern Canada,

-Happiness

-Traveling within every country before I die.

...and this story by Loren Eiseley:
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."

LITERATURE FOREVER LODGED INTO MY HEART:
Stories i read as a wee one which are pieces of me still. Like footprints on my soul, these came to me so early they are even more a part of who I am then many of my own stories.

...are there any stories from your early childhood imprinted into your soul? I'd love to hear, drop an email or add it to my comments. Thanks.

About my library.. okay, back to what you really came here for. Meeeeee!... oops, I mean, My LIBRARY!!!

I'm mad about non fiction. I NEED reference books, regardless of subject. I'm a fiend for words; dictionaries were my first love and rich, layered, descriptive words new to me create spasms of pleasure when I first hear them uttered.

I live for music I can perform (my tattered scores discarded from the Oberlin music library are my treasures). The smell of old, stacks books sends me into spasms of almost sexual glee. I revel in irreverent humor, shocking content and any book which teaches me something I didn't know.

I'm an anti-collector in everything that isn't books. Somehow books are the anomaly and since finding LT I can't acquire book shelves or reading time fast enough to keep up with the influx of books pouring into my house!!

Few things are as satisfying as throwing out clutter.

I strive for minimalism and a house full of open space and I prefer rooms to have echoes and flat surfaces without embellishments. At this rate I'll make it about 5 minutes before I die.

I'm the odd duck in a family of squirrely collectors --paternal grandmother literally had pathways through her house of collections. As the only child and grandchild on both sides, somehow these collections migrate to my wee bitty apartment. I jokethat my place is where my mother's stuff goes to die. Laugh. But it's true.
Luckily, much of my family also likes to read. I get lots of great literary hand-me-downs:)

Books are my collecting achilles heel; it causes me physical pain to let a good book, or even a mediocre book, go and even the bad books create a dull ache in their departure. And staggering home under an impossible armload of bags bursting with obscure and strange used books causes spasms of delight which are almost embarrassing to admit.

NOTE: With all that said, I've made the monumental decision that AUGUST 2008 is my month to PURGE MY LIBRARY!!!
My shelves are bulging like badly canned tomatoes. They're gonna blow!! So I'm getting rid of almost all my fiction, read or not, it's going. And then I'm going to start packing, cause my nomadic itch is getting too uncomfortable to ignore. It's time to pull up stakes and mosey along. And so...purge I must:)

TAGS EXPLAINED:

I have a strange affliction. I get in these mental spaces where I love, nay I NEED to organize things. I get a blaze of magnificent inspiration and an idea for a system so perfect, I marvel at how I've never thought of it before. I then tear into the process like a woman possessed and hardly come up for air until I've redone everything. About two weeks later I go to find something and realize none of it makes sense since I've forgotten the system and wonder what the bloomin' hell I was thinking.

Yes, this keeps happening with my tag system. Sigh. Some books have 7 or more tags, which is just obscene!!!

I'm thinking I need a hierarchy, Top level tags which are broad spectrum categories and then 1 or 2 descending tags more refined to specifics. I wish the tagging system supported that, then again, maybe not. I'd just be able to build a more complex system I wouldn't understand in a month.

So far, looking at my collection

COOKBOOKS:
This whole section needs some order and standardization.

What can I say? I'm fickle.

PERFORMED: If you've read this far, you've probably already
guessed this one. Yep, I did a public performance
of said work. And yes! With a real live audience,
not just the imaginary theater of my mind. :P~~
Sheesh, everyone's a critic!

[SB1-B5]Book in storage,The letter/# are it's location.

ToRead2007= was on the TBR pile for that year, more than half weren't finished.
2/8/2007: I'm beginning to catalog all my music for voice and instruments and am trying to determine appropriate tags.

MUSIC STUDIES: Any book which is part of my work or studies in music. Main instrument will be noted ie: Guitar, vocal, piano, harmonic, saxophone...etc.
This can include books on Theory, sight-singing, chords, memoirs of performers/musicians or books on music business, public appearances, and the business aspects of music.

-Songbook: a collection of music for voice or instrument
my goals is to include the table of contents for every songbook in the Public comment field.

-Piano-vocal-guitar: this includes words and has guitar chords with suggested tabs above the staff.
-Piano-vocal: may have chord names above staff, no tabulature.
-Choral music: has vocal line for more than one voice.
-Score: (I need to revamp the older use of this tag)
A book which is one work, broken into individual movements or songs, but which are considered one work. I will include opera scores, scripts with music, etc. This is different from a Songbook.

WHEW! OKAY enough about me. So, what do YOU think about me? :D
