I was somewhat disappointed in it. I was
probably expecting a lot, because of its
reputaion as one of the really great
operas. I donʻt remember any of the
singers; I think it was probably
nobody very well known at the time --
which was the 1950s or 60s. I know
it must have been that long ago, because I
saw it in a Boston theatre that ran movies
that had their first run much earlier.
Black-and white film and of course done
in the original Italian, as most operas were
at that time. I donʻt remember
ever liking any of the little there was at
that time of operas translated into
English. I took a particular dislike
to a line in a English performance of
"The Barber of Seville" --outdoor and
free, but I didnʻt stay for the
whole opera:
".. ..Here;s an end
To your GIGS
and your GIRLS!"
It sounded like something
that could only be said in
a feeble attempt to metrically
translate Italian.

I also have found a number of good books through LT, for instance the Jack Reacher books (from reading DrNeutron's reading thread). What nice surprises have you discovered?
Are you from Canada?
