About meI've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember & luckily had parents who encouraged my love of books. In school I once won a reading commpetition, having read & reported on the most books out of anyone in our school during the school year.

While I love my mystery novels, I have tried to vary the books I read & I love this place because I have already found lots of books I might not have otherwise read.

"DId you like La Traviata"?

I was somewhat disappointed in it. I was

probably expecting a lot, because of its

reputaion as one of the really great

operas. I donʻt remember any of the

singers; I think it was probably

nobody very well known at the time --

which was the 1950s or 60s. I know

it must have been that long ago, because I

saw it in a Boston theatre that ran movies

that had their first run much earlier.

Black-and white film and of course done

in the original Italian, as most operas were

at that time. I donʻt remember

ever liking any of the little there was at

that time of operas translated into

English. I took a particular dislike

to a line in a English performance of

"The Barber of Seville" --outdoor and

free, but I didnʻt stay for the

whole opera:

".. ..Here;s an end
To your GIGS
and your GIRLS!"

It sounded like something

that could only be said in

a feeble attempt to metrically

translate Italian.
Those are my initials but I've always liked that they said NHL. I used to be a big fan of the NHL until they expanded and started fighting so much.
Hi! Yes, I'm glad you understand about Shake Hands with the Devil. I so admire that man! My sister says that book has some unpleasant things in it but there is more of the dry military facts and planning.

I also have found a number of good books through LT, for instance the Jack Reacher books (from reading DrNeutron's reading thread). What nice surprises have you discovered?

Are you from Canada?
Snag a book from November's list....Christian book called "words". I'll let you know how it is. Haven't got it yet.
Nappily in bloom...don't know anything about it. Read your review today on your ramblings...and say that Linda commented on it too. Way to go!
Hey! I am getting another early reviewers book! Just noticed the message today, but haven't got the book yet. I'll let you know what I think. Hopefully I get it read before I get wrapped up in textbooks instead!
Hello there, passing by.
Not read it yet, no, though I did read the extract on Amazon... having a bit of a new-fiction binge at the moment so it probably won't be long. Reviews I've seen have been mixed & say it's "uneven" but I'm still intrigued. Spent some time with a family on a farm in Zimbabwe before all the land repossessions so am really intrigued by the fictional take on recent years.
Thanks so much for the offer of Easterly! I've actually managed to find a copy elsewhere, but *really* appreciate you offering :) Did you enjoy it?

Best, Rachael/FlossieT
Hey! Just popped in to say Hi back! lol I haven't been on here in ages, mind you I've only got 2 comments and one of them is yours! Hope you're well and I'll chat to you soon on msn :)
Not sure what is next to read, besides my textbooks. Jodi Picoult is going to release a new book soon though. I've read all the books on my shelves, might have to take a trip to the library with Zach.
oooh I'm stumbling around blind, but trying to figure it out! I hope I like it as much as you do. :) Thanks again for the info on it.
Hello! I see you are here too! Although we don't seem to share a lot of books!
Best wishes, SaraPepparkaka
Hi Ceinwenn, thanks for asking me to be your friend, which I have duly accepted. I see you like mysteries and thrillers and we have a few books in common.
