Thanks writing. I must admit I am biased when it comes to Updike, believing all of his books are transcendent, so this reply is far from objective! The Rabbit series is my favorite, but I can also highly recommend both Beck and Brazil. If you read either or both, please let me know what you think.

As for the Rabbit books, they're special, I think, because they were a departure from the gentry he was writing about when he started the series. Rabbit Angstrom is Updike's Everyman, in all the gritty detail. You love him and hate him by turns, but he's always engaging and always has your sympathy. He's an amazingly rich character. I'd definitely recommend the Rabbit novels.
It was great to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time.
