About my library"Of the customary modes of acquisition, the one most appropriate to a collector would be the borrowing of a book and the subsequent failure to return it. The book borrower of real stature whom we envisage here proves himself an inveterate collector of books not so much by the fervor with which he guards his borrowed treasures and by the deaf ear which he turns to all reminders from the everyday world of legality as by his failure to read these books."

~ Walter Benjamin, "Unpacking My Library"

That's a wonderful quote from Walter Benjamin. I have some books in that state, though not enough to attain real stature.
Well, welcome! Interesting idea, sorting by nationality. As you know, that's what I do for the 19th century, but then things internationalize again after WW I, more or less.

Of course, if Germany gets only one shelf, something's wrong....

See you in Boston!
I take it all this activity on LibraryThing means you've arrived and are unpacking??
I still can't beat your found in garbage tag, but I was proud to use a found in street book to tag a bell hooks book I found no more than 50 feet from my door.
Awww, I miss the Seminary Co-op so much! I almost cried the day I sold my share back to the store.
So, I was loving the "bought at seminary co-cop" and "bought at Powells" tags (they made my little 57th Street heart smile!), but then I drilled down and found the best EVER tag: "found in garbage" -- darn fine garbage at that! I'll need to start prowling our neighborhood dumpsters, I think!
Thanks for the Walter Benjamin quote...which reminds me, I have a book around here Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen by Larry McMurtry that I haven't found or listed on LibraryThing.
I was browsing a bit, and saw the tag "bought at seminary co-op". As that's a favorite hangout, I was curious and went to your profile. With "bought at co-op sale" and "bought at powell's", it could be mine! But where is "bought at O'Gara's"??
you read pretty.
