I noticed we had two shared favorite authors--Markson and Mulisch--so I clicked on your username and was surprised to fnid you run Burke's! I visited the shop while in Memphis last month and picked up a really beautiful and pristine 1st edition of Mortals by Norman Rush. I loved the shop.

Thanks for the note. Yeah, I've done my share of spreading the good word, or trying to, about Fisher's Hornpipe too. McEwen's descriptions of Boston, and some of his characters, are pitch perfect. I wasn't as engaged by Sleeps with Katz, but maybe I'll give it another go sometime. It was entertaining, though, hearing him read from it when Katz first came out. I met McEwen's parents, and they seemed sort of bemused by my enthusiasm over Fisher's Hornpipe, saying something like "Yes, well, of course we're proud of our son," and smiling at him like he was still in knee pants.

I noticed that you are among the few other librarythingers who also have Fisher's Hornpipe in their collection, and also among my Top Fifty Similar Libraries, so I thought I'd say howdy. That's an amazing book--McEwen is a comic genius. My husband and I just stumbled across this site a couple weeks ago, and it's made for an excellent source of distraction.

Corey, I like that plot of your novel: the ghost of Richard Brautigan. It's almost like a comedic haunting retelling of "Letters to a Young Poet." Oh, I think we should start a topic discussion on him over at Art is Life. I would like to pick your brain about him.

Corey, if you want we could start a new post about Brautigan over at Art is Life. I think Brautigan's whole identity, for better or worse, was wrapped up in is art. He really wore the Art is Life moniker.

You wrote a book called "Following Richard Brautigan"?! How cool is THAT? Oh, these publishers don't know anything. What a great concept. I hope you find someone with some sense who will take that on. Some time ago, quite long ago, I wrote some poems about Brautigan. One of them was called "Popsicle Monumet." It was about Little Big Man visiting a statue of General Custer during a cold snap in Montana. It wasn't like my usual writing, but it was so fun to write, and playful like Brautigan. Oh, how I love that man's mind.

You asked where you can get my stuff? THE FUTURE DICTIONARY OF AMERICA you can pick up anywhere. It's an odd little book and very political. MOTORHEAD is just a digital story available on Amazon Shorts.

My novel and memoir, like those of most writers, sit on my hard drive. Makes me feel pretty goofy about writing a third book. If I were a logical person, I'd give it up.

Ooooh...now we share 56 books. You got busy today.

Now that I've pretty much finished the books in the same room as the computer and I'm faced with the task of getting off my duff to enter them, I'm slowing down somewhat. I need to start tagging but I'm fussing over little details.

There's and "Author" book group and a "Nobody Likes the POMO Books I Like" (or something to that effect) group. Both sound right up your alley.
