About meHello all! I am an avid reader with a wide variety of interests, particular in cultural performing arts and ethnic cooking. Dancing is one of my favorite activities--I am taking belly dance classes and enjoy Latin dancing and soul line dancing regularly as well. There's no way I can pinpoint just one genre of books as my favorite...if you take a peek at my library, you'll see for yourself where my interests lie. I'm looking forward to lively discussion and conversation with like-minded bookies (or not--lets' debate)!!

I'm a book juggler (hmm, picture that, lol). I need a book to listen to on the way to work, one to curl up with at night, and another for book discussions. I'm also committed to catch up reading some of the many non-fiction books I have.

So, here's my progress on books I'm currently reading...

Dirty Angels by Christopher Tusa (eBook)

Protect and Defend by Vince Flynn (audio)

Time Machine by H.G. Wells (audio)

Everything Twitter from Novice to Expert compiled by Steve Soho and Monica Jones (eBook)

Memorial Day by Vince Flynn (111/574)

Queen of the South by Arturo Perez-Reverte (disc 5/15)

(Hey, what happened to Zokutu Word Meter...account is suspended I can't put up my cute little graphics)

About my libraryWhat you will find in my library are mysteries, horror, fantasy, cook books, family saga, African American fiction as well as history, cultural arts, foreign fiction, and so much more!!

My library contains books that I have read and currently own (working on reviewing them all) and books that I have borrowed from the library, read and reviewed. Also included in my library are books that I plan to read and or wish to own. My tagging system, which I am constantly updating, aims to clearly distinguish each book's status.

I have cataloged all books by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Vince Flynn and Toni Morrison...as well as the 100 Essential African American Books list because I have a personal goal to one day actually READ all of those books.

In the future, I plan to develop clearer parameters for my rating system--I tend to rate with my feelings rather than on the actual quality of the material.

**I am getting tired of the ever growing number of books in my library under the tag 'Curiosity piquers'. These books were not placed in Wishlist!, because I did not have intentions, yet, to purchase or mooch, but simply to check them out to see if I would like to obtain. But now, there are over 200 entries!! So, I will be spending the next couple of days downsizing these entries and transferring them elsewhere so that my library here is a better reflection of what I own and have or plan to read in the very near future.**

Noticed you liked She's Come Undone, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a disturbed young girl's downward spiral and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Thanks so much for posting such a nice comment on my profile! It's fun to meet fellow dancers here!
Thanks for the recommendation of Arturo Perez-Reverte. I will ask her if she has read any of his books. Lucky for me, my daughter is home for Spring Break this week. :) I have several books for reading groups that I have not started yet. Partly because of having Spring Break and partly because of lack of progress on my other books. Maybe I should switch books for a while. Have a great day and thanks for the recommendation.

Hi, CutestLilBookworm!
Love your photo on the profile page. I wish I knew how to put in a photo. I am not too good with computers. :)

Thanks so much for the info on the Marquez book. I have a couple of other books by him that I need to read. I was mostly asking about it for my daughter who is a Spanish major. I am always looking for books to get her by Latin American authors. I think that the book looks pretty interesting.

I see that you are reading Things Fall Apart. I am hoping to read that this summer. Do you like it so far? I see also that you are in the Highly Rated Book Group. I will see you there for The Blind Assassin. I have ordered the book from amazon with the supersaver shipping, however, and it has not yet shipped, so I will be late to that one. Have a great day and thanks so much for the comments on the Marquez book.

"Look To This Day"
(from the Sanskrit)

Look to this day
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course lie all the
Varieties and realities of this existence
This bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendour of beauty;
For yesterday is only a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today well lived makes
Every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope
Look well, therefore to this day
Such is the salutation of the dawn.
Hi Cutie,

I have started a thread on the Group Home page for future group reads.
Would you be so kind as to post your suggestion there for everyone to read?

I like your suggestion as I recently bought The Crimson Petal and the White but it is a long book and may not be entirely suitable for our Group. But I will certainly consider it.

It is one of the only two books that we share!

Best regards,

- TT
Welcome to The Highly Rated Book Group!

PS: Your photo is lovely!
Thank you for the book suggestion for the next Highly-Rated Group Book Read!

Truthfully, the amazing Tortoise figures out the book(s) to read, and I may or may not get involved depending on how busy I am! I'll be sure to give him your suggestion, so he can evaluate it for the future.

Thank you again!

I know what you mean about audio books and keeping up with the characters. I have posted a starter question here. Feel feel to add your own questions. See you there!

Hey! I saw that you recently added A Mery. I'm hoping to get a few folks together to read and discuss over in the African-American lit group. If you're interested, stop by!
Hi, I saw that you got Low Man and so far are enjoying it. I wanted to ask, when did you get it? I was picked for it too but haven't heard anything about it.

Nice library, BTW. We have a lot in commen. I enjoy King, Koontz( even though I haven't read a lot of him), and Roberts (Robb).

Talk to you soon,
Carrie
Thanks for the ADD
Thanks for accepting my friendship. I really like to read. I ride the bus and train on a daily basis, so I try to keep something with me to read at all times.LOL
The Thai cookbook was a gift . . . Back in April, we hosted two Thai exchange students for six weeks. Great girls and a wonderful experience for my kids as well. They gave us the book as part of the cultural exchange as they had to cook a meal for us as part of their experience. We hear from them fairly regularly as my daughter got to be good friends with both of them.

Thanks too for the review of my reviews! If it's a good book, I try to entice people because I like to spread good things around. I am really enjoying the Early Review books.

Enjoy LT!
Nice library! I just started adding my cook book collection to my shelf. You might find some interesting titles there . . .

You didn't say what you thought of Art of War and you didn't rate it either. If you enjoyed that, try Book of Five Rings by Musashi. There are lessons there applicable to daily life.
If you're still looking for a new SK, try Duma Key it was excellent...and you're right about The Cell, it sucked!
