The Book of Common Dread by Brent Monahan

When an ancient scroll is given to the Princeton University Library, the evil powers who wish it's secrets to remain hidden plot to have it destroyed as they have every copy discovered. This is a non-traditional vampire story. Brent Monahan brings a fresh look at vampires and their origins and powers. I found the plot well thought out and the characters were well developed for the story. I would recommend this to all fans of horror/vampire novels.

Washington by Douglas Freeman This was a little hard going until it reached his Presidency. I do wander how much was lost in the abridgement. Overall this was a very thorough biography on Washington. His character really comes through the pages. It was interesting to note how he never allowed personal ambitions to cloud his judgment to what was best for America. I will continue to look for the unabridged version.

The Prophecy of the Kings Trilogy by David Burrows
The Prophecy of the Kings trilogy is a fantastic epic. David Burrows creates a vibrant and compelling world which captivates his readers. Kaplyn, a prince of Allund, travels to escape the boredom of being the ninth in line for the throne of Allund. He stumples upon outlaws who plan to kill a stranger named Lars and comes to his aid against his better judgement. Together the pair, set off to compete in the Pendrat games and come across a wizard named Vastra whom asks for their assistance retrieving a pendant from an ancient city. From here Kaplyn and Lars' destiny is set and before long they have set into motion a five hundred year old prophesy that holds the fate of their world in the balance.

The first book started a little slow but quickly grabs a hold of the reader. Burrows develops his characters well and by the end of the first book you feel compelled to keep reading to find out the outcome of the tribulations the characters must go through. The second and third books are equally engaging and the pace quickens with every page. I truly enjoyed this novel and would recommend to all fantasy fiction fans.

Hey, just letting you know, the Principia arrived today - in a white "Royal Mail Great Britain" bag best described as somewhere between "gigantic" and "colossal"... hahaha
The set itself is about 9x12" and comes in a slipcase. I'll take some pics later tonight.

Thanks!
I've heard that English Lit requires an immense amount of reading (I'm a slow reader), but I don't know exactly how much. Do you know? And yes, I agree that college is more important than other stages of education. I don't think badly of college; I just don't expect a lot, either.
