About meI am Jared Hardesty, a second year MA student in History at Boston College. As such, I have to read all the time. Luckily, I love to read and my personal library dwarfs all the books that I have had to read for class. I have a particular interest in Atlantic World history from 1400-1900, especially slavery, so my library compliments my interest.
My profile picture was taken at a horse ranch in Pinar del Rio in western Cuba.
About my libraryThe majority of my library deals with Early Modern Atlantic history from 1400-1800 with a large portion dedicated to British North America. I also have a wide range of titles in my other fields of interest including Cuban History, historical archaeology, and the conquistadors. My fiction collection is actually quite small but includes such classics as "1984" and "A Brave New World." I loved the American Civil War when I was younger, so there is a large selection of books from that era too. I have a small rare book collection. Most of these come from the time I spent in Cuba during the Fall of 2006. They are in Spanish and not available in the United States because of the trade embargo, but, luckily, were legal to bring back and complement my collection nicely. Hopefully, I will be able to catalog them. The rarest book in my collection is a pamphlet written by James Burgh (a Presbyterian minister) in the 1760s. It is a great resource for understanding the intellectual origins of the American Revolution. Overall, my collection is extensive, so it may take a while to get up. Until then, feel free to contact me about any part of my library.

Have you chosen a topic for your thesis? Boston College has a good reputation and Boston certainly has a lot of American history. Harvard would be a good resource too.
So, if you were in Cuba you either are from the US and have Cuban relatives (the only exception to the trade embargo) or you are from elsewhere. Where are you from?
Good luck in your studies!
