GroupsLos Angeles Loves Librarything

About meI am a reader, I've always loved to read. I prefer fiction, and just hit the non-fiction when I have a specific information interest. Fiction is an escape to another world. My father didn't allow my family to have a television until I was twelve. So, I read. By 4th grade I was making it through things like David Copperfield, because I liked it.

I often read and re-read books that I like for the sheer pleasure, or sometimes to distract myself from my own life. I get lazy about finding other, new, good fiction titles to keep myself growing with. However, recently I have alot of reading to do just in order to know the literature and be better able to promote the books to my prime clientele, the teens. I began working as a Young Adult Librarian at the Los Angeles Public Library late in 2005.

So, this site is a true find for me at this point in time! One of the reasons I can re-read books so often is that I immerse myself in them and totally forget the story once I've put the book down. I can't afford to forget anymore, though.

!!Thank You!! for creating this site so I can catalog, make book lists and write reviews to go back to and track my progress. I hope my comments on the titles will be as useful to others as they will be to myself. I expect I'll become a life member by April, 2006. :)

Cheers!

About my libraryI try not to keep 'em at home anymore. I only buy the ones I live by these days.

The Canary

~Elizabeth Turner

Mary had a little bird,
With feathers bright and yellow,
Slender legs-upon my word,
He was a pretty fellow!

Sweetest notes he always sung,
Which much delighted Mary;
Often where his cage was hung,
She sat to hear Canary.

Crumbs of bread and dainty seeds
She carried to him daily,
Seeking for the early weeds,
She decked his palace gaily.

This, my little readers, learn,
And ever practice duly;
Songs and smiles of love return
To friends who love you truly.
Hi,

Saw you liked Trainspotting, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reading my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). Thought you might like my novel since it's also about a group of disturbed kids and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Cathy,
I am a librarian from Saint Louis, MO and may be moving to L.A. this summer. How is the library scene in town? The job outlook? The library social scene? In Saint Louis, the Special Library Association is HUGE!! Any suggestions?
Thanks.
