About meI have a B.A. in geology and I'm currently a graduate student in museum studies/paleontology and a part-time freelance writer. I'm also a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism.

About my libraryOn the fiction side, I like fantasy and historical fiction, although these days I don't read a lot of fiction. I have a special weakness for historically-based Arthurian fiction.

Most of my nonfiction collection is about evenly split between science and history, with the science focusing on geology, paleontology, and evolution (heavy on Gould and McPhee) and the history split mostly between the Age of Sail, "Arthurian"/Roman Britain, and T.E. Lawrence. I'm also interested in the Mongol Empire. I'm just starting to build an Tudor-Elizabethan and 16th century Spanish history and material culture collection. I'm also slowly building a library of Very Expensive Scientific Monographs.

My fiction collection has a lot of Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Tamora Pierce, Rosemary Sutcliff, and Guy Gavriel Kay. I also like Fiona Buckley and Tasha Alexander at the moment, and I'm rereading Elizabeth Moon.

If you've been to any of the bardic circles at Glory War, you've seen me ;-) I'm the bardic coordinator.
I was just looking at your website (very lovely, clean design by the way) and saw that you are a freelance writer! How did you start doing that? I've always enjoyed writing, and some of the science journalism out there is so appalling, so it seemed like it might be fun to write about science for a larger audience. Was it hard to get your first few assignments/jobs?
Hi there. Looking at people who share my favorite authors, your username caught my eye. Which SCA group are you in? I am in Caerthe, and my username here is my SCA name (different spelling).
Hi, I saw a post by you in the Graduate Students thread which made me laugh, because I also am a scientist who could read articles all day and still want to read books on the bus and I would also love to learn arabic! How did your arabic class turn out?
Even if they were your second choices, I'm still enjoying them. I'll be sure to look up those ones you recommended, too--they sound right up my alley.
