About meCollege professor turned stay-at-home dad. My reading is a mixture of scholarly, classical literature, escapist (mainly fantasy & sci-fi), and now parenting & children's books.
About my libraryAn odd mixture of scholarly books (I have a Ph.D. in political science, specifically political theory & political economics), classic literature, parenting books (I'm a new father & now a stay-at-home dad), and my light reading. The last is mainly fantasy books and some young adult books (many of which are better written than fantasy aimed at adults in my experience). I have several thousand books in my collection, and am very slowly adding titles to my library here on LT.
I tend to be a fairly tough rater (my students thought I was a tough grader too), and books I enjoy start at 3 Stars. Books that have some redeemable qualities but either just weren't up to being an enjoyable or fulfilling read, or books that might have been enjoyable/fulfilling but had some problem that I just really could not get over might will end up at about 2 Stars. Real stinkers that were a total waste of time or I really disliked will be 1 Star. Books that rose above the crowd will inch toward 4 and 5 Stars, with 5 Star books being a fairly rare exception limited to books I truly think are exceptional overall.
