About meIm an Austrian born lover and dealer of Tribal Arts. Started into this business after some years working with and selling old and antique carpets; studied restoration of carpets and textiles and from my love to textiles i first encounterd BAKUBA textiles which brought me to Africa. From this time on my love towards Tribal Arts spread to primarly Southeast Asian, Oceanic and Australian Art.
About my libraryVarious types of specialized books onto Tribal Arts. Textiles, Jewelry (my second passion), Sculptures and many more.
I also collect old (pre 1920) travel books which do have (at least some) good pictures. Most of this old books have to be added by hand to my inventory, so within time i should be done.
Im also interested to aquire specific books within my range of interest !

Good collection of books on tribal art! India has a wealth of tribal art that is not very well known outside the country (and even within!). You might want to check out the art of Gond and Naga tribes in particular. The Himalayan region also has pockets (Ladakh, Kumaon, etc.) of excellent aborginal art.

What a surprise! Yes I am the John with all the catalouges. Actually I have somewhere between 6,000 and 8,000 (flat, two Kellerabteilungen, self storage, and Office in Hofburg). I just started with LibraryThing last December after looking around at various software. I am cataloguing the collection rather carefully. For the catalogues I am putting in all the venues [exhibiton places] if known (either from book or internet). I am also recording the main private collections and the museum collections. I am tagging this all, including see references. As I mentioned, I have a very nice office in the Museum für Völkerkunde. I have been donating a number of items to the museum - spreathrowers from Austrailia, collection of 72 items from Ladakh, and now I have several items from the Batak for the Indonesia collection. I am very interested in you, your shop, and would lke to get together sometime this Spring (business and/or private). I have not been to Graz since you were the European Kulturhauptstadt! Are you planning a return visit to Vienna soon (perhaps for the opening of our large Masks Sonderausstellung)?
More later, and yes I am interested in your Spreathrowers (saw in shop website) -are they documented? I am planning an article on them, based on my private collection, those I gave to the Museum and, of course, the large collection in the MfV. I am also very interested in slings (Steinschleuder) and have a private collection of those too!
Greetings from Alterlaa and thanks for the quick e-mail!
John
