Hi,
Sorry to dismantle your theory, but Knapp's Appetites (which I love) was published in 2003, while Shute's Life-Size (which I love even more) was published in the early 1990s, so there is no way Shute could have "copy&pasted" parts of the book. By the way, Appetites was a very good ensemble of different theories on eating disorders and other compulsions.
Life-Size is incredibly and crudely realistic; I think many survivors of anorexia (like myself) can empathize with the protagonist. I expect no identification or even understanding from anyone who has not gone through anorexia nervosa. I can understand that, too, because some things are so defamiliarized that you can't get them unless you know what your're talking about.
