Noticed you liked Ice Storm, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Thanks for the friend request! I'm pleased to make your acquaintance.

I just picked up In the Lake of the Woods based on the recommendation of a member of my department, but I haven't dipped into it yet. Did you like it? If you've enjoyed O'Brien I would highly recommend Tobais Wolff's In Pharaoh's Army and Alfredo Vea's Gods Go Begging, both excellent books by Vietnam vets which I've found most vets actually enjoy more than O'Brien.

As for Havel, Open Letters was what pulled me into his orbit, and I enjoyed To the Castle and Back as well. If you haven't read any of his plays yet, a good starting point is The Garden Party. The Memorandum and Unveiling are also excellent, as is his version of The Beggar's Opera. As for books on Havel and his thoughts, my favorite is James Pontuso's Vaclav Havel: Civic Responsibility in the Postmodern Age, though I haven't read everything out there (yet!). What Havel have you enjoyed most?

I also see you have Baghdad Express in your library. What did you think of it?
Wait, I just need Straight from the Stacks. I have the Foundations of Library and Information Science book. Two library science books came through work today. Remind me to show you one of the books- you might be interested in it.
I meant Foundations of Library and Information Science! Ergh!
Hey! Thanks for grabbing ice cream with me today! I looked at the 2 titles that you have tagged as library science items. Funny thing= I just bought The Foundations of Library Science (Richard Rubin). I remember that you encouraged me to get it- I didn't realize that you already had it- I think that it's a great book (tome-hee!). Oh, please don't forget to bring in Straight from the Stacks! I can't wait to look through it. See you Friday!
I might suggest Salwomir Mrozek. He's a polish absurdist. I directed a play of his called Striptease. Also, Pavel Kohout is a good playwright friend of Havel's whom you might be interested in.
