My man from the N.E.! Hope you have a good Thanksgiving (I thought I'd better do that now before I forget, hardly a brain cell left you know). Hope you have a good one!
Have a good 4th of July. I'm going to blow some things up!
Have a Happy New Year! Try not to get too liquored-up.
I have read Delbruck and enjoyed it very much. Talk about informed on a subject! He has all the bases covered.
Your review of William Urban's "Medieval Mercenaries" was exactly the same thing I was thinking while reading it. Too bad I had read it before I read your review. I believe Mr. Urban and Mr. Jones spend too much time in the same circles whose predodminant trait is a perverted delight in bashing anything Western. Keep up the good work.
How weird that the person who left the last comment shares the (only)two books that we share. I admired your review of Canticle which I read way back in 1967/8 or so and found terrifying, but enchanting.
I, too, think that your review of A Canticle for Liebowitz was perfect. My husband suggested that I read it many years ago before we were married. I did. I liked it. It helped me know that I would like him, too.

HOWEVER, I disagree strongly with your take on Guns, Germs, and Steel! Oh well, good minds don't have to think alike all the time, and I do respect your differing opinion. I was absolutely captivated by his latest work, Collaspe: how societies choose to fail or succeed. I bought it in print form and read it thoughly--even highlighting my copy to help me remember and analyze the facts. Then, after I was finished, I found out that my local public library had a CD version, so I borrowed that and listened to it, too (I do a lot of traveling in my car--LA to SD and back every week--so I have plenty of time to listen to audiobooks. I learned a lot in that book that I had no idea about before. For me, it was a feast of new knowledge.
Your review of A Canticle for Liebowitz was spot on.
