About my libraryAlthough the books listed include those originally bought by my husband, I only include in the 'Your Library' collection those of interest to me (or at least will once I have time to separate out those just of interest to him in 'DJ only'). Likewise the wishlists, to look at and other collections are just mine. So, to summarise my collections:

Your library = books owned and of interest to me
Wishlist = books I would particularly like to get
Wishlist 2 = books to possibly buy
Wishlist 3 = books I might buy if I see them particularly cheap
To look at = for notes of books I have seen reviewed or heard about in some other way that I would like to borrow from the library or look at if I get the chance
Not want to buy = books I have seen that I don't want to buy
To sell or swap = fairly self-explanatory - still own but plan to get rid of them
Got rid of = those already gone. I have got rid of a lot more books over the years, but these are ones I specifically remember owning
Never owned = reference books plus some I have worked on as editor or proofreader where I did not get a copy
DJ only = owned books only of interest to my husband, so separated out so that they do not count in my recommendations

For now (until collection details can be exported) I have also kept my old tags @1-@9 that I used in PC (pre-collection) days.

Other tags:
@f = fiction and @n = non-fiction
(these last two may not always be accurately assigned but give me an idea where in our 'library' to look for the book).

Other @something tags are to do with locations, and then there are odds and ends of other tags to remind me where I saw a book reviewed, the publisher of a book I worked on, whether it is available in our local or county library, etc.

I have reviewed a few books, including any Early Reviewer books I've received, but I am afraid I mainly use 'Comments' for any notes from reviews as well as my 'notes' after I have read a book (that way I don't have to worry so much whether it is a 'proper' review, whether it has typos etc!). I've tried to rate books read or looked at since I joined LibraryThing, plus enter start and stop dates (though the latter are often a bit vague).

I was trying out using my user wiki page for notes on possible follow-on books from ones I read (though abandoned for now!). However, I have left WikiThing (LT) as a link via Also on (mainly for my own convenience, though I will try to update here if I start using it for anything that might be more generally useful).

Noticed you liked The God of Small Things, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a grief-stricken family. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter)in case you'd like to read more about the novel before you commit:

Hi! So we have probably passed within a yard of each other on Winchester High Street (or at the Discovery Centre), but have more chance of getting acquainted in cyberspace!
Perhaps we should play a game and see who finds out who the other is first - leave a clue stuck to a headstone on the Cathedral Green or some such.
I see you're a fan of Anne Tyler. The first book I read of hers was Ladder of Years, which I thought was very measured, reflective and touching. Somehow no subsequent book of hers has had quite the same impact. It's a wonderful feeling when you discover a really good author and there are more of their books to look forward to...
