About meI grew up in Texas but moved to New Hampshire in 2008. It was the best decision I've ever made! I love it here, even though the winters can be somewhat difficult.

For several years I waffled back and forth between going to grad school for Social Work or to become a librarian. My choice ended up being in social work and I am finally in my last year of graduate school! I am interning at a local rape and domestic violence crisis center and enjoy the women and children that I work with. It definitely reminds me to be grateful for my experiences.

In 2008, I participated in the 50 Book Challenge; my challenge thread can be found here.

In 2009, I participated in the 75 Book Challenge; my challenge thread can be found here

In 2011, I logged my reading in Club Read - takes off some of the pressure to produce! My link can be found here.

2012 Club Read thread.

About my libraryAs for my ratings, you will see a lot 4-5 star books. This is simply because I am happy to put down a book if I'm not enjoying it for whatever reason. Life is too short to read books that I think are terrible!

I am trying to live more simply and with less "stuff" in my home. I have recently donated a ton of books and am continuing to slowly go through what is left. My goal is to never have more than one small bookshelf of books! The books that I no longer have in my physical possession have been added to the Collection titled "donated."

I have fairly eclectic reading tastes. I really enjoy reading feminist fiction/nonfiction - most notably in my collection would be books by Margaret Atwood, Joanne Harris, Alice Hoffman and about Eleanor Roosevelt, although I'd love to read more female authors or about other successful women. I also have a soft spot for classic literature, although I don't/have not read as much as I would like.

Hi Katie. Yes, I did read Reading Lolita in Tehran. It was great :) (Sorry for the late response. I've just been adding books but didn't check my comments. Sorry :( )
Hi Katie! I'm actually rereading We Have Always Lived in the Castle: I read it for the first time 2 or 3 years ago and just loved it. This time around, I'm reading the audio version, which has been neat! I think it makes it slightly creepier since I can't gloss over anything, hehe. Are you a Shirley Jackson fan? I've read three of her novel(la)s, and a few of her stories, but Merrikat is definitely my favourite of hers so far!
No, don't hurry! The next time you're at your computer and remember and have time on your hands!
Oh, interesting. I was just over on your Club Read thread and noticed you have read two JCO novels that I haven't. I would think that JCO might have some interesting content that would interest someone studying social work. She doesn't shy away from violence and its effects on individuals and our culture.
I'm assuming you meant Belletrista not Bellefleur!
Will send it out this week.
Oh, I missed your earlier post! Just send me your address and I'll send the copy northward. I picked it up for a pittance and it is no trouble mailing. Best, Lois
I'm glad that you enjoyed my review! It looks like you have some great books in your collection, and we share a lot. Any recommendations?
Simply stopping by to say you were missed and how great it is to have you back with the 75 challenge group.

Noticed you liked The Glass Castle, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family (and also a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

I'm doing well. Thanks :) I hope all is well on your end, too :)
Hi Katie
Congratulations on your "hot review" status found on today's home page. Your review of Pride and Prejudice is great!

Linda
Hi. I love your name. Very clever. That's all.
Brent
Thank you for your kind note about Mrs. Dalloway; it was very thoughtful of you.
Tui
Hi Katie, thanks for your comments about Sarah's Key.
Heidi
Hi, I saw that you are reading Sarah's Key, it is on my to read list, just wondering your thoughts on it.
Thanks
Heidi
Hi fasciknitting--Thought I'd stop by to say hello to a fellow Pym fan and to ask about your name--are you a knitter? :)

Katie
Thanks for noting The Dahl book The Witches as one of your favorite January reads. I was able to obtain a copy from my local library and it is next up to be read.
Hi Katie
I've been following your thread on the 2009 75 book challenge. I also note that you have added some historical books to your library recently. I'm curious about [Truman]. Did you read this one yet? And, if so, what did you think.

I just signed up for Ravelry... maybe I can actually finish some projects!
Thank you :) Now onward with the book adding!
Yes, it is a small world, and getting smaller all the time I think!

Thanks for dropping by. Have a great afteroon!

Stasia
It's understandable. We were pretty much preoccupied with social work books & classes. I kind of wish I had a paper book journal. You've inspired me to start one up :)

Some books I've gotten a chance to jot down in the past, but right now I have to rely on memory & a little help from google :) I know I've read a ton of books, but I don't think I can remember every single one, so I'm just putting the stuff I can recall.

Haha. Backwards or chronological, whatever works best for you :)
Wow. I wasn't even aware of that :). I guess because we never really talked about books we've read in the past. I read the majority of the VC Andrews family sagas before I entered high school. Up until 1999. That's crazy, but in a good way :)
Thank you. To be honest, your library has the same effect on me. :)
welcome to the 2009 75 Books Challenge group. Thanks for joining in!
Thanks for adding BannedBooksLibrary to your Interesting Libraries. Happy Reading!
You're right: The $25 credit every $250 is a great way to get us to come back.

I am nautilus on Ravelry. There seemed to be lots of "lefty" names, which could be confusing in a forum-type setting, so I went with the book reference.
My Loopy Ewe package came today and everything is SO wonderful! I want to call in work tomorrow and just knit all day!

They said they credited you $5, so I hope you get to use it on something fun! Thanks again for telling me about them!

Lots of exclamation points! I'm still excited from opening my yarn and cataloging it on Ravelry. :D
Thanks for introducing me to The Loopy Ewe! I just ordered a bunch of stuff to make socks for family members for Christmas. It is a great store -- I'm addicted for life.

If you don't get your $5 referral prize soon, let me know so I can tell them you deserve it! I followed the link from the email you sent me, but there wasn't anything that had me enter your name or anything. Hopefully the link worked like it's supposed to.

Happy reading & knitting! :)
Many thanks, Katie, for locating my January list. I was afraid that it was gone forever.
Katie-
Hi again! Of course you can pick my brain about the UNT SLIS program. You might also want to check out some of the threads on the Librarians who Librarything board-there are a few threads about being in school and considering it.

As for what they look for in their program-the folks at UNT really value a diverse background from their students. So, any major you had as an undergrad is useful for them-obviously, there are lots of English, History and Education majors (there's also a big school librarian program there), but there were also a few business majors and biology majors (like yours truely). A less-than-stellar undergrad GPA is forgiven by decent GRE results.

If you have more questions (which I'd be tickled to answer), email might be more efficient. My email address is kaelirenee@hotmail.com. Good luck with your admissions!
