About meI'm 51 and live in wonderful bookish Melbourne. I'm a social policy worker, wife, mother and grandma, and attendant to 3 cats. A lifetime reading junkie, habitue of book shops wherever I find them and owner of many overflowing bookshelves. I've had at least one book on the go at a time from my earliest memories, and have a phobia of being caught somewhere boring without a novel. Which celeb was it who said they never even get into an elevator without a book just in case they get stuck? Well I can relate! My pet literary hate is the overwhelming popularity of underwhelming books, just because the author is flavour of the month.
About my libraryMy library lives in bookshelves in every room of my house, organised not by themes or alphabetically, but aesthetically. Books like to look good too! It is made up of old and new books, from new bookshops both large and independent, from second-hand bookshops and op shops, from over the net, library sales, wherever. I don't keep every book I buy, but find it hard to get rid of any that I've even moderately enjoyed. Apart from contemporary fiction of many types, I collect old household / decorating / personal advice books, crappy pulp fiction paperbacks from the 1950s and 1960's, old kids' books (girl's and boy's own type volumes from early 20th century and classic Little Golden Books). I'll pick a book up and buy it for all sorts of reasons, and my library reflects that - a bit of an eclectic jumble!
