About me I am a gay chinese guy, living a happy life in the centre of london uk. Feel free to comment. I will rate the books according to my personal likes and dislike, so the rating is very subjective.

About my library these are books I borrowed from my local library. would love to talk to others about books i have read and to hear what other's views of them. i have long ago realised that if i buy books i never read them. this is because i think that i have lots of time in future to read them and so they can wait. Whilst books from the library impels me to read them quick as they become due. it is a great way to get me to finish them or give up on them.
What i like about these websites about books is that they allow us to comment very freely giving our true feelings about the books, without fear. it is our personal space to let rip or to praise, to highlight those parts of the book we like or dont like. and because of the edit feature, we can have a ongoing review as we read the book rather than wait till we finish it to comemnt.

Anthony - just sign up to their newsletter on the Waterstones website and every so often they offer all members Advance Proof Copies on a first come first served basis - the qpq is that you place a review on their website - though I doubt they check! Peter
Anthony - Up in the North, near Barnet. Your comments about compulsory reading [which we don't do - but it's nice tp keep abreast trends] reminds me of the joke about the customer asking the Librarian if he'd read all the books in the library? - to which he replied: 'Yes - twice!'. Let me know if you have any further thoughts on Ruso.

Peter
ps. I've just realised looking at R S Downie author entry that it was aslo published as 'Medicus and the Disappearing Dancing girls' - I've not checked, but this almost certainly for the American market.

Peter
Anthony,

I thought that your review of Ruso and the disappearing dancing girls was 'on the nail'. I've just finished it - partly because I'm reviewing an Advance Proof copy of 'Ruso and the demented Doctor' as part of a freebie deal with Waterstones - due in March next year. I'm enjoying this one more - Downie seems more relaxed now that she has her central characters established - or maybe it's me who is more relaxed - because I know what to expect from the main characters.

Another aspect that does not really bare any analysis is the cosy sexual relationship between Tilla & Ruso. I also found the deductive logic of the murders rather contrived - and was more interested in the fate of Ruso & Tilla.

I've just reserved a Lindsey Davis at the library - I'm expecting more period authenticity! I'll send you a link for the review of the latest - but am unlikely to retain it.

Peter
