I tried to post a reply. Well, anyway, you touched on a very important point: colonialism was horrifying, and white complicity was barely addressed! This annoyed me throughout, to be honest. While Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight was not as beautifully written, I found that to be much more appropriate.
This is not to trivialize Godwin's suffering. But -- he painted his parents in saintly colors, which strikes me as quite unrealistic.
